Today, as had been expected for months, the administration released its proposed rule modifying the Head Start program performance standards. DEC is in the process of reviewing the proposed rule and will prepare comments in relation to its impact on young children experiencing disabilities and their families. Early indications are that the proposed rule includes policies that weaken services and supports for young children with disabilities. Another strong concern is the reduction of parent leadership. We, alongside the entire EC community, will continue to update the DEC Community on how to support our Head Start partners, the children, the families and the communities they serve.
