Ballou High School valedictorian beats the odds

I had the privilege of interviewing Shae'Lynn for a Friends of Ballou scholarship. The maturity, energy, and confidence that she has is off the charts and I am looking forward to witnessing the great things that she will continue to accomplish! Shae'Lynn received our top award, the Curtis Etherly, Jr scholarship. Bucknell University is receiving a true gem from our community. Shae ‘Lynn Ames’s younger sister added the finishes touches to her look for prom on Friday night. “Excelling in school was always a thing for me,” Ames said. “I was involved in so many things, I was in the band. I was just so involved in school. ” The Ballou Senio...

Ballou is launching “Inspire a Knight” to support our seniors as they prepare for post secondary life! As often as possible, we plan to write motivational notes to keep them focused and excited about their future!

In June, we will present a send off gift ($75 max) related to their post secondary plan. The seniors won’t know their sponsors until June!
If you would like to sponsor a senior, use the link:

You must use a computer to access the link.

More info will be shared directly with participants! Thank you for being a part of our village!

Principal Yetunde Reeves

I had the privilege to spend the day helping interview 29 students for Friends of Ballou college scholarships. I was so impressed with the kids, their goals, and their desire to live out their dreams to go to college! For many of the kids, they'll be the first members of their families to ever attend college. Thank you Fabiola Cadet, Yetunde Reeves, Kira Rowe, and all of the staff at Ballou for pouring so much of your time and energy into these future graduates!!! In the past, we've awarded $25,000 - $50,000 for scholarships. I'm happy to say that this year, we were able to commit $67,500 to help them start the next phase of their lives.

Ballou Students Get Tips on Manhood, Success

I always enjoy spending time with motivated young men. I was also proud to see so many successful men come out and share their inspiring stories. A select group of male students converged on the library at Ballou Senior High School last week for the annual Men's Day program to hear tales of overcoming adversity and achieving success.
