Seeing clearly helps scholars learn! On Tuesday, October 13, Vision to Learn is coming to DC Scholars to provide free vision screenings and free glasses for any scholar who needs them.

Families, look for an information letter in your scholar's backpack this week. You only need to sign and return it if you do not want your child to take part.

Thank you to Vision to Learn for helping our scholars see their best!

Our building was full of grandparents on Grandparents Day and it was so special to witness. 💙

Grandparents followed their grandchildren to class, joined them for breakfast in the classroom, and got a real glimpse into what the start of a DC Scholars school day looks like. For our scholars, having the people who love them most walk through those doors was a moment of pure pride.

Thank you to all the grandparents who came out to be with us. 💙

Today is World Teachers Day and we are celebrating every educator who brings their whole self to their students each morning. 💙

Ms. Kennedy starts her class by waking up her scholars' bodies and meeting their sensory needs before the day of learning kicks off. It is the kind of thoughtful, whole-child teaching that defines what DC Scholars is all about. Thank you, Ms. Kennedy, and thank you to every teacher on our team. 💙

Hispanic Heritage Month Spirit Week is next week! We’ll be celebrating all next week under the theme "Muchas Culturas, Una Gran Comunidad." 🎉

Here is what our scholars have to look forward to next week:
-Monday, October 5: Colors of Our Culture Day. Wear the colors of a Hispanic country's flag, because every color tells a story.
-Tuesday, October 6: Rep Your Roots Day. Wear clothing, colors, or accessories that represent your culture, heritage, hometown, or family traditions.
-Wednesday, October 7: Fútbol and Sports Day. Rep your favorite team in a soccer jersey, athletic shirt, or team colors.
-Thursday, October 8: ¡Qué Elegante! Dress to Impress Day. Show up in your best look: dressy, colorful, or traditional cultural attire.
-Friday, October 9: Fiesta Friday. Go big with bright colors, Hispanic country flag colors, or Hispanic Heritage Month gear.
We cannot wait to celebrate with you all. 💙

Our early childhood scholars wrapped up a full week of live Zoom Spanish lessons with Profesora Estefania! They practiced greetings and salutations, and now confidently say hello, goodbye, and introduce themselves with "my name is" in Español. ¡Buen trabajo, scholars! 💙

Thank you to everyone who came out on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of our new playground. 🛝

We loved seeing you all show up to celebrate this new play space built just for our scholars. Movement is a crucial part of how children grow, and this playground is a real investment in every Bulldog at DC Scholars.

None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors: The Comis Foundation, Raleigh Sims, and the Susan Maloney Memorial Fundraiser. We are deeply grateful for your investment in our scholars. 💙

When scholars score 100% on their Exit Ticket, a quick check for understanding at the end of a lesson, they're celebrated for their hard work. It's a small token that makes mastery feel exciting. These scholars all earned 100% earlier this month. Keep shining, scholars! 💙⭐

In math class, scholars worked together to find as many equations as possible that equal 24. Along the way, they practiced how to share ideas, listen to one another, problem-solve, and work as a team. These are the same skills that carry scholars far beyond our classrooms. 💙

We join communities across the country in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs through October 15. This is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino people, and at DC Scholars it's a chance to celebrate the rich diversity within our own Bulldog family.

Throughout the month, our K-2 scholars will celebrate in their classrooms with their teachers and classmates: reading stories, learning Spanish greetings, exploring music and dance, and creating art inspired by Hispanic and Latino traditions.

Our different backgrounds make us stronger together. 💙
