There, Their, They’re

The third most common mistake is the spelling of these three words and their meanings. Let’s provide you with examples to understand it better:

Put it there (что означает: положите его на это место)
Their dog is dangerous. (имеется в виду: у кого-то есть собака, поэтому мы говорим «their dog»)
They’re so chatty. (имеется в виду: мы говорим о некоторых людях и описываем их, говоря «they are»)

Repetition of the Subject

My company it is big.

My company is big.

Довольно часто изучающие английский язык используют существительное в качестве подлежащего предложения, но все же вынуждены добавлять местоимение сразу после него.

Common mistakes. Part 2. Missing am, is, are

Another common mistake is omitting the verb ‘be’.

Using ‘He student’ instead of ‘He’s/He is a student’ or saying ‘We enjoying the party’ instead of ‘We’re enjoying the party’.

This mistake often puzzles students, as they often say they hear natives omitting the verb ‘be’ as well. 🤔

Well, firstly, native speakers also can make mistakes. 🤭

Secondly, if this is a short answer to a question, like ‘What are you doing? - Oh, just relaxing’, then it’s ok. ✅

However, in case you construct a sentence ‘I relaxing’, it will be a mistake. ❌

Еще одна распространенная ошибка - опускание глагола «be/быть».

Everybody hates articles. Especially if there’s no such thing in your mother-tongue. 🧐

Indefinite articles (a or an) are used to refer to a noun, the specific identity of which is unknown. “The” is used in front of singular or plural nouns and adjectives to refer to something with which both the writer and reader are familiar.

“A duck” refers to a single unspecified duck whereas “the duck” refers to a specific duck.

Learn and use the articles, because they truly want to be in your speech!

Craic - general banter or fun.⠀

Craic is pronounced “crack”. Originally it was spelled crack when it was used by Ulster Scots. The Gaelic spelling of the word was not widely used in Ireland until it was popularized as the catchphrase in the Irish-language TV show SBB ina Shuí starting in the 1970s.⠀
