Tableau Classroom Drama Activities: Active Learning via Silent, Still Images

FREE SHIPPING via Amazon Prime and this great review!

"Dr. Flynn's book is an easy to read, step-by-step guide to introducing the arts integration teaching technique known as tableau. Her writing is based on years of experience in working with students across the country, and as such, she is able to provide many useful tips on what to do and what not to do when engaging students in tableau. I highly recommend this book!"

amazon.com Tableau is the theatrical technique in which actors freeze in poses that create a picture of one significant moment in the play. Stillness and silence are the hallmarks of Tableau, so it’s understandable why this drama strategy appeals to teachers for classroom use! But to really get the m...

Analysis | Principal: ‘Money matters. Race matters. Grit talk makes me angry.’

GREAT ARTICLE!
"So the biggest challenges for me have always been how to create schools where what matters is that students are deeply engaged in what I call “making and doing” — something that the arts teach us how to do — the actual creation of knowledge and material."

"Of course you don’t get ahead without determination and persistence, and it’s one of the reasons I’m such an arts advocate. That’s what you learn in the arts: how to practice, how to work together, how to persist through difficult scenes, lines, choreography, etc...."

washingtonpost.com The author a new book, “When Grit Isn't Enough,” writes: “We can't 'no excuse' our way out of the way we have ravaged our education budgets or our cities and the way education has become synonymous with test scores.”

Teaching English through Drama

Back in December, I did some Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre (CBRT) work in the Palm Beach County, Florida school district. A New One-Act Play with Lots of Female Roles

I am looking for a Theatre teacher willing to workshop my one-act play with lots of female roles intended for production by high school students. Last year, it was performed by a high school in Arizona. Before submitting it for publication, I have been advised to seek another production* of my play.
(*A “production” could be a workshop production done during a class—not a full-scale production. It could even be a staged reading.)
Please contact me (or share this post) if this idea interests you or someone you know.

Why Theater Majors Are Vital in the Digital Age

"Many corporate consultants have bachelor’s degrees in acting and make a good living teaching improvisation, role play, and collaborative problem-solving to M.B.A.s. Yet universities with theater departments have failed to recognize that they have this resource in their own backyards." CUADrama The Catholic University of America

Arts in Education Newsletter - April 2016 (revised)

Take a look at this just-out article in the Arts In Education Newsletter written my my colleague, co-author, and friend Lenore Blank Kelner.
Scroll down to "Stage Right" - "...a theatre term that designates the left side of the stage from the audience's viewpoint. When an actor moves across the stage, from stage right to stage left, the audience senses strong purposeful forward movement ― movement toward a goal. It is an appropriate metaphor for what drama/theatre can achieve for educators and students in our schools.

In this, our first issue in the series, we focus on theatre and drama. You may notice that the articles are abridged in your inbox—this is to make it easier to scroll through the newsle…
