Out of all the opportunities we encounter, there’s so much we can say yes to but we only 24 hours in a day & our energy is limited before we have to recharge it.

To prevent burnout, remember to take time to check in with yourself & give yourself the breaks you need.

Thank you to Michelle for sharing this wisdom at the February Wellness session! Make sure to sign up for our last session March 30th for more wellness advice!

What does being a Black woman in STEM mean to you?

Being a Black woman in STEM is a constant choice to courageously fight for what I love. I love science, medicine, and the betterment of all people, which are all gate-kept by those with higher power— those who aren’t Black. Choosing to continue down this path is frightening because I know I will often be the only one who looks like me, talks like me, or has similar experiences to me. However, it becomes fulfilling when I get to serve others in the community who feel the same way. When I may feel alone in my field, I remember that there are many patients who also feel alone in the doctor’s office or community health clinics. I hope to help patients who feel unseen or silenced in medical spaces by letting them know there is someone who understands and hopes to help them. Being a Black woman in STEM means taking small acts of bravery today in order to one day make a larger impact.

She currently is leading the 100 Year Starship project through the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). This project works to make sure human space travel to another star is possible within the next 100 years. 🚀⭐️
