The inABLE team had an amazing time taking part in the 32nd ARSO General Assembly, held under the theme “Standards Enabling Intra-Africa Trade under the AfCFTA – One Certificate Working for You.”

During the Eco Mark Africa Certification & Voluntary Sustainability Standards session, Julius highlighted the importance of embedding accessibility and disability inclusion into sustainability standards and certification.

He emphasised that digital accessibility is both a right and a business opportunity, and highlighted an opportunity for ARSO and inABLE to align African standards with global accessibility standards, helping locally produced products and services become more accessible and competitive in global markets.

We had the pleasure of hosting a mentorship session at Isinya Digital Hub with young people mobilised by St Cecilia Parish Isinya.

Led by Julius, the session explored personal branding, knowing your strengths, preparing for opportunities and mastering the elevator pitch.

A warm welcome to the AssistiveMath team, who joined us at inABLE this week for a courtesy visit as our partnership grows.

As the winner of our 2025 Innovations Award, they are making mathematics accessible for learners with visual impairments and equipping teachers with the tools and know-how to build genuinely inclusive classrooms.

Maths has long been one of the hardest subjects to make accessible. Seeing it opened up to more learners is exactly the kind of innovation this continent needs.

Delighted to share that inABLE has signed a Cooperation Agreement with Kenya Society for the Blind under the Unlocking Opportunities Programme.

The agreement will support assessing, recommending, providing, training, maintaining, and supporting vision-related assistive devices for people with disabilities, strengthening access to tools that make independence and inclusion possible.

InABLE Programs Director, Charles J. Warria Warria, and KSB Executive Director, Samson Waweru led the signing. Through this partnership, inABLE and Kenya Society for the Blind will work together to expand access to appropriate assistive technology and strengthen the capacity of persons with disabilities to access education, employment, and other opportunities.

At inABLE, we believe that the right assistive technology unlocks potential, builds independence, and creates pathways to greater participation. Together with KSB, we are advancing an inclusive Kenya where persons with disabilities can thrive.

Yesterday we held our Mandazi Monthly (yes, that's what we call it)—inABLE's monthly gathering where we learn together, collaborate across programs, and strengthen the communities we serve.

A field officer shared feedback from communities on what access to assistive technology means to them. A digital innovation team member discussed how young people use online learning tools and where barriers still exist. A policy advocate brought insights from government conversations.

Someone from our education work outlined what communities told us about their needs. Another shared a success story: a young person hired, earning, respected.

These conversations shape everything we do. They centre the voices of communities and young people in how we make decisions.

We discussed what we are hearing across all our programs: assistive technology, digital accessibility, community rehabilitation, employment, policy. Connected. Integrated. All serving the same goal. We celebrated progress. We identified where we need to adjust our approach. We made decisions rooted in what communities are telling us.

That is how we stay grounded in our work. By listening. By learning together. By letting the communities we serve guide what comes next.

Effective Networks Are Built Together

We just signed a blueprint that proves it.

We formalized a partnership agreement that sets a clear roadmap for advancing disability inclusion across Kenya through integrated rehabilitation, digital innovation, assistive technology, inclusive education, and sustainable livelihoods.

No single organization can do this alone. At inABLE, we build networks with and within disability communities, not for them. That means:

✓ Organizations of and for persons with disabilities
✓ Government and private sector partners
✓ Community-based and faith-based organizations
✓ Youth with disabilities leading the conversation

Through this blueprint, we align efforts across six counties toward one goal: economic inclusion and dignity for children and youth with disabilities.

Our strategic anchor: Inclusion is not built in silos. It is built together.

When disability leadership is central, when partnerships are accountable to communities, and when systems change is the goal, we move from isolation to integration.

Access to independent learning remains a barrier for visually impaired learners in Kenya.
Today, that gap is narrowing. In partnership with Google, Thika School for the Blind received 125 Chromebooks for learners and 24 laptops for teachers, embedding the technology that enables independent study, research, and collaboration.

For learners, the Chromebooks provide access to screen readers and assistive technologies that support reading, research, collaboration and independent learning. They ensure a seamless transition from junior to senior school, so students build on skills instead of starting over. Those capabilities carry into university, into work, and into lives learners direct themselves.

For teachers, the laptops strengthen lesson preparation, instruction and access to digital teaching resources.

"This support creates a more level playing field for our learners," said Principal Grace Kiarie. "It gives them equitable access to quality education and the opportunities that follow."
As we continue to advance digital inclusion in Kenya's education system, partnerships like this remind us that access to the right tools changes everything.
