Congratulations to our Board Chair, Lori Jackson, on being named a finalist for the 2026 Heroines of Washington Awards benefiting March of Dimes! 🎉

Lori has served on the New Futures board since 2021. She previously led our Development Committee and recently stepped into the role of Board Chair. Her commitment helps first-generation Scholars across the DMV access college, careers, and opportunity.

This recognition honors leaders who serve their communities beyond the workplace. We can't think of a better example than Lori.

Our Director of Strategic Partnerships, Griselda Macias, will be there on October 8th to cheer her on alongside this year's remarkable finalists. Please join us in congratulating Lori!

"Community" comes from the Latin com, together, and munus, gift or duty. At our first All-Staff Working Day, we put that into practice by having every staff member draw their own relationship map, and then we looked at all of them at once.

to the first four years of Taste of New Futures! Swipe through.

Since 2022, we’ve used this rooftop cocktail party to shine a light on alumni entrepreneurs and alumni chefs. We’ve traveled the around the world exploring the cultures and countries that make up our community, from Cameroon to Barbados, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Sri Lanka, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Nigeria, Washington, DC, and many places in between. Every year the rooftop fills with Scholars, alumni, staff, board, and supporters, and every year it tastes like somebody’s home.

That’s the whole point of this night! We celebrate the cultures and traditions that combine to make ours a community where everyone feels at home—because everyone is welcome.

And your ticket purchase supports our mission. $85 covers your evening and goes straight into what our Scholars need to succeed—tuition, books, tools, exam fees, transportation to class— and into the advising that carries them into their chosen career. Their passion and talent are already improving this community every day. Your night of fun is how we keep backing them.

He’s baaack! DJ Honest Lee has spent more than 15 years spreading soulful global funk across DC (residencies at Mercy Me, Eighteenth Street Lounge, Songbyrd, and the late Velvet Lounge and Dodge City) and he’s on the turntables again for Taste of New Futures!

It was a full house at the True Reformer Building on September 2nd as we welcomed the 2026 Scholar cohort into the New Futures community!

What made this Scholar Award Celebration extra special: they already knew each other. This cohort met at Scholar Orientation and spent Scholars Weekend together in August. You could see their excitement as they arrived, Scholars spotting each other from across the room, families meeting the people they had been hearing about all summer.

That's belonging. It's community. It's what Scholars lean on when a semester gets hard. And it's built by everyone who invests in their success.
