The iconic Pink Tower!

A young primary student begins the important work of constructing and understanding the Pink Tower. Through this exploration the child discovers differences among three dimensional objects and learns to visually discriminate between different-sized objects. This work will be repeated until she has gained mastery and is able to assemble the Pink Tower in the correct order.

We love when lessons move beyond the classroom—especially with so many amazing resources in our own backyard 💙🗺️ Our Sweet Gum Upper Elementary students planned a “Going Out” to to continue their exploration of a recent grammar lesson on word origins.

Going Outs are an essential part of the Montessori Elementary experience. These student-driven trips allow children to follow their interests outside of the classroom while building important life skills!

Last Friday, our Lower Elementary classes enjoyed a special Diwali presentation from one of our Aidan families. Red Oak and Magnolia children painted their own Diyas, small oil lamps used on Diwali meant to represent triumph of light over dark. They also designed their own rangoli art to celebrate the occasion.

Is there anything better than a hot cup of coffee on a rainy fall day? ☕️🍁

Here a Primary child presents our receptionist with a cup of coffee. The drink was prepared by the student with deliberate care; the coffee beans ground by hand, the hot water carefully poured, and finally served to a grateful recipient.

The simple act of preparing tea or coffee provides students with a chance to show care for others. These little moments blend Practical Life activities with opportunities to demonstrate Grace & Courtesy each and every day. 💞

Look how focused our YCC children are as they help prepare the classroom snack!

🍎 Concentration
🌽 Refinement of Movement
🥬 Hand-Eye Coordination

These are just three of the many beautiful benefits children get from food preparation.

Prepping a meal with young children is the perfect opportunity to cultivate their sense of belonging, foster independence, and enrich vocabulary.

Whether it is cutting a cucumber, making bread, or washing kale, our communities are prepared with many lessons that emphasize the development of important skills while nurturing a child's relationship with food. 🍏❤️
