This year, our 15 teams are from 14 different states across the country, representing many regions. We are thrilled to welcome our teams from Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Louisiana, North Carolina, Virginia, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine, and 2 teams from Pennsylvania.

We are looking forward to studying with you for the next 6 months and helping to honor a soldier buried in the Normandy American Cemetery from these states.

The Albert H. Small Normandy Institute provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to students and teachers from across the United States to engage deeply with the Normandy Campaign of 1944 and create personal connections with their local community's service in World War II. Be sure to get your applications in by December 1, 2025 for this expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC and Normandy, France following a semester of online study about the Normandy Campaign.

This unique opportunity gives students and teachers a chance to learn and travel together. It's best to hear the impact of this program from former participants!

Ashley, our Head Teacher for 2024 and 2025 said, "As I wrap up my time with the Normandy Institute, I keep thinking about how much this experience has changed me as an educator. The transformative power of place-based learning has been remarkable to witness—seeing students' perspectives fundamentally shift when they stand on the beaches of Normandy creates educational moments that simply cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom. What I didn't expect was how much I'd grow from the relationships I've built. Working alongside scholars from George Washington University has pushed me to think more deeply about how I teach history. It's created this incredible professional community that I never would have found otherwise."

Jessica, a teacher in the 2025 class said, "The Albert H. Small Normandy Institute was an absolutely transformative educational experience. I was so impressed with the high-quality historical research from each and every student participant, and I learned a great deal from both the students and the teachers. It has been so moving to return to my town and share the story of Normandy and our courageous soldier with my community, and I encourage other teachers and students to apply for this amazing program."

A student from the 2025 class said, "Expectedly, the Albert H. Small Normandy Institute was a great learning experience in World War II history. However, at the same time, it helped me to develop a critical analytical eye, gave me valuable insight into the historical research process, and allowed me to connect with other like-minded students from across the country."
