Happy Earth Day! Today we honor Dr. George Washington Carver (c. 1864-1943), who is celebrated as a true environmentalist. Dr. Carver’s agricultural techniques include crop rotation, soil restoration, and composting. He also developed hundreds of uses for peanuts and sweet potatoes, methods on reducing waste, and he taught conservation to farmers.

Closing out Women’s History Month honoring Dr. Halle Tanner Dillon Johnson who was the first female physician to pass the Alabama state medical examination and was the first woman physician at Tuskegee Institute ❤️💛 !

Dr. Tanner Dillon Johnson also served at Tuskegee Institute as a physician, pharmacist, teacher, and ran a private practice for 3 years. While at Tuskegee she founded a training school for nurses and a dispensary (pharmacy).

Olivia Davidson Washington was born in Mercer County, West Virginia on June 11, 1854. After graduating with a degree in teaching, she went on to become a prominent educator at the Tuskegee Normal School. She was a vocal advocate for the education of African American women, famously delivering the 1886 speech "How Shall We Make the Women of Our Race Stronger?".

Celebrating Women’s History Month!

Margaret Murray Washington (March 9, 1865 – June 4, 1925) was an American educator who was the principal of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, which later became Tuskegee University. She also led women's clubs, including the Tuskegee Woman's Club and the National Federation of Afro-American Women. Margaret Murray Washington was the third wife of educator and author Booker T. Washington and a pioneer in the education of women.
