Around 66 million years ago, Earth experienced one of the most catastrophic events in its history. A massive asteroid, estimated to be about 6 to 9 miles (10 to 15 kilometers) wide, slammed into what is now the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, leaving behind the enormous Chicxulub Crater and triggering a chain of events that transformed life on the planet forever.
The crater, named after the nearby town of Chicxulub, Mexico, marks the site of the asteroid impact that scientists believe helped wipe out roughly 75% of all species on Earth, including the non-avian dinosaurs. Researchers estimate the impact released energy equivalent to billions of atomic bombs, instantly igniting wildfires, triggering massive earthquakes, and sending shockwaves across continents.
For decades, scientists searched for the exact location of the impact until geologists confirmed the buried crater beneath Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Today, much of the crater remains hidden underground and partially beneath the Gulf of Mexico, stretching roughly 110 miles (180 kilometers) wide, making it one of the largest known impact craters on Earth.
The disaster did not kill dinosaurs instantly everywhere. Instead, scientists believe the asteroid launched enormous amounts of dust, sulfur, and debris into the atmosphere, blocking sunlight for months or even years. Global temperatures dropped, plants struggled to survive, food chains collapsed, and ecosystems rapidly failed. Large animals, including most dinosaurs, could not adapt to the sudden environmental collapse.
However, not all dinosaurs vanished. Scientists classify modern birds as surviving avian dinosaurs, meaning some dinosaur descendants still exist today. Small mammals, birds, reptiles, and other adaptable species survived the catastrophe and eventually helped shape the modern world.
In recent years, researchers drilling into the crater have discovered important clues buried beneath Chicxulub, including shocked rocks, melted minerals, and evidence of the violent aftermath. These findings continue to help scientists understand not only how dinosaurs disappeared, but how mass extinctions can reshape life on Earth.
The Chicxulub impact remains one of the most important events in Earth’s history, marking the dramatic end of the age of giant dinosaurs and opening the path for mammals — and eventually humans — to rise.

Researchers in the United States are developing a new kind of computer chip that uses light instead of electricity to process information, a breakthrough that could eventually make computers faster and more energy efficient. The technology, known as photonic or optical computing, replaces electrical signals with beams of light, allowing information to travel at extremely high speeds with less heat generation.
One of the most important advances came from scientists at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn Engineering) in the United States, where researchers developed an experimental photonic chip designed to perform complex artificial intelligence calculations using light. Instead of relying entirely on moving electrons through traditional circuits, the chip manipulates light waves to process data, potentially reducing energy use while dramatically increasing computing speed.
The idea behind optical computing is simple but powerful. In normal computers, electricity flows through billions of transistors to carry and process information. This creates heat, consumes energy, and eventually limits performance. Light, however, travels much faster and can transmit large amounts of information at once with lower energy loss. Scientists believe future computers may use light-based systems to handle demanding workloads such as AI training, scientific simulations, cybersecurity, and massive data processing.
However, viral claims saying these chips are “replacing everything inside computers” are misleading. Current photonic chips are still experimental and are not replacing processors, memory, storage drives, or every electrical component inside computers. Instead, researchers see them as specialized accelerators that may work alongside traditional chips rather than fully replacing them.
Scientists in countries including the United States, China, and the Netherlands are investing heavily in optical computing research because of growing concerns about energy consumption in artificial intelligence and cloud computing systems. Companies and universities hope hybrid computers combining both electricity and light may become common in the future.
For now, the breakthrough represents an important scientific step, not a complete revolution. Computers powered partly by light may someday transform technology, but today’s devices still rely overwhelmingly on traditional electronic hardware.

In 2017, Amanda Coker completed one of the most extreme endurance achievements in cycling history by riding an astonishing 86,573 miles in just 365 consecutive days. The effort ended in May 2017 in the United States after a nonstop year of training, discipline, and determination.
Her achievement broke the annual cycling distance record and earned recognition from Guinness World Records. To reach the goal, Coker averaged about 381 kilometers, or roughly 237 miles, every single day for an entire year with almost no breaks.
Most of the ride took place on a closed loop in Florida, where she battled heat, exhaustion, storms, and physical pain while maintaining a relentless schedule. Some days required many hours in the saddle just to stay on pace.
The record shocked the endurance sports world because it demanded consistency few athletes could imagine. Amanda Coker’s ride became a powerful example of human endurance, mental toughness, and what relentless daily effort can accomplish.

Hakeem Jeffries has publicly argued that Americans are growing tired of MAGA politics and increasingly ready to support Democrats, especially heading into future elections. He has repeatedly said Democrats believe voters want a different direction focused on affordability, healthcare, and government accountability.
However, the exact wording “Americans are ready to leave MAGA and vote Democrat” appears to summarize Jeffries’ broader message rather than quote him word for word. His public comments generally frame MAGA politics as losing support while expressing confidence that Democrats can win back voters.
Jeffries has also predicted Democratic gains in Congress and argued that Republican policies under MAGA have failed to improve everyday life for Americans, a message he has repeated in speeches and interviews.
So the overall idea is accurate, but the statement is better understood as a paraphrase of Jeffries’ political argument rather than a confirmed direct quote.

Grigori Perelman solved the century-old Poincaré Conjecture, one of the most famous problems in mathematics. First proposed in 1904, the puzzle remained unsolved for nearly 100 years until Perelman published a proof in the early 2000s.
His work was considered one of the biggest breakthroughs in modern mathematics. After experts reviewed and confirmed the proof, Perelman was awarded the $1 million Millennium Prize in 2010 by the Clay Mathematics Institute.
But in a move that stunned the academic world, Perelman refused the money and declined many honors, including a prestigious mathematics award known as the Fields Medal. He reportedly said he was not interested in fame or financial rewards.
Perelman later stepped away from public academic life, becoming known as one of the most mysterious figures in modern science. His decision to reject both recognition and fortune only added to the legend surrounding his achievement.
