The recent layoffs at the U.S. State Department hit deeper than headlines.

They affect the students who saw themselves in diplomacy for the first time.
The institutions that finally felt seen.
The programs that created new opportunities across borders.

iHBCUx and HBIx would not exist without the guidance, belief, and collaboration of so many incredible State Department officers and partners, across the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Foreign Policy teams, and local embassies.

You showed up for us. You connected us to campuses. You made sure students from HBCUs had a seat at the global table.

Thank you. Your work continues to ripple far beyond the walls of your office.

One of the hardest moments I’ve faced as a nonprofit leader: telling my team that our $200K public diplomacy grant was unexpectedly terminated—just days before we were set to launch the HBIx program.

HBIx, a partnership between iHBCUx and the U.S. Consulate in Durban, was designed to connect students and faculty from HBCUs in the U.S. and HBUs in South Africa through collaborative research in STEM, education, and sustainability.

Black History Month Spotlight! ✨

Did you know that Booker T. Washington’s work influenced John Dube, a South African educator and activist?

Dube founded the Ohlange Institute, inspired by Washington’s Tuskegee University model of vocational education and self-reliance. His efforts helped shape education and leadership in South Africa, making a lasting impact.

Today is ! Support iHBCUx and Help Us Increase Global Opportunities for HBCU Students

At iHBCUx, we are on a mission to increase the presence of HBCU students in life-changing international exchange programs like Fulbright, Gilman, Boren, and CLS. Too often, these opportunities seem out of reach for our students due to a lack of access, resources, or awareness. That’s where we step in.

Through workshops, mentorship, and strategic collaborations, we empower HBCU students to see themselves as global citizens and leaders. We believe that every HBCU student should have the chance to study, research, or teach abroad—gaining experiences that will shape their futures and amplify the voices of our community on a global stage.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking for your support to continue this critical work. Your donation helps us:
✅ Host workshops that demystify international exchange opportunities.
✅ Provide resources and guidance for competitive applications.
✅ Create programming that highlights the value of internationalization at HBCUs.

Together, we can make a difference. Will you join us in expanding global opportunities for HBCU students?
