Survey of Grades 6-12 Teachers on AI Training and School Policies for Its Use.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in classrooms, particularly generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, has become a critical issue for schools and policymakers. In K-12 schools, these platforms are now frequently used by both teachers and students.

This survey, conducted by Leger for the Fraser Institute, offers insight into how teachers in grades 6 to 12 classrooms—in public and independent schools across Canada, and in each province or region—perceive their school's or school board’s training and policies on AI use, which impact both students and staff.

>>>Critically, only 49.3% of teachers surveyed say their school or school board has provided AI training on how best to use AI for class lessons and other in-class materials.

>>>63.6% report no training on instructing students to use AI reasonably, and 64.7% report no training to identify students using AI.

>>>Only 34.8% of teachers polled say their school has a policy regarding staff AI use, and 42.3% for student AI use.
