ALL CARMELITE SAINTS _ NOVEMBER 14
We pray that the example of these saints will continue to inspire holiness in a new generation of our brothers and sisters. Like them, we can live in allegiance to Jesus Christ and serve Him with a pure heart and a good conscience. Like them, we can know how to devote ourselves day and night to the contemplation of the Word and to generous service for the humanity. Finally, we ask that the examples of Carmelite saints may impact us immensely and concretely and make us have a deeper love for Christ, for the Church and for the whole world.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Four years ago, the Carmelite Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary gave The Catholic University of America School of Theology and Religious Studies (STRS) $5 million to establish an academic center that will conduct research and support the development of courses on the Carmelite charism of prayer and contemplation.

The gift marks the single largest donation in the history of STRS. It will fund the Center for Carmelite Studies, the Carmelite Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Endowed Chair, annual scholarship stipends for three doctoral students, and an annual lecture series. It also will ensure “a permanent bond between the Carmelites and Catholic University,” says Very Rev. Mark Morozowich, dean of theology and religious studies.

To the Carmelites during our General Chapter: The Church appreciates you and, when she thinks of Carmel, she thinks of a school of contemplation. As a rich spiritual tradition attests, your mission is fruitful to the extent that it is rooted in your personal relationship with God. Blessed Titus Brandsma, a martyr and mystic, said: “It is proper to the Order of Carmel, although it is a mendicant order of active life and living among people, to maintain great esteem for solitude and detachment from the world, considering solitude and contemplation as the best part of its spiritual life”....... The Carmelite way of living contemplation prepares you to serve the people of God through any ministry or apostolate. What is certain is that whatever you do, you will be faithful to your past and open to the future with hope if, “living in allegiance to Jesus Christ,” you have at heart, in particular, the spiritual journey of people.
Pope Francis to the Carmelites, 21.09.2019.

Feast of St Albert of Jerusalem, Patriarch of Jerusalem, and Rulergiver of Carmel.

From our Morning Prayer hymn:

We are grateful to you, Albert,
For the Rule which we profess,
Apt to guide each one in Carmel
To the heights of holiness.

With your Rule to give increase,
Fruit abundant may we see
When with you we praise in heaven
God eternal, One in Three.
