Today my amazingly talented, beautiful, and smart babies will officially graduate from high school. As much as we work as educators to impact the lives of our students, I can truly say that this class has impacted me more than they will ever know and they will always hold a special place in my heart. I didn’t think any class could ever come close to my 2016 babies, but this group is definitely one of the best! This surprise party they through me when I received my masters stands out as one of the most memorable moments of my career that I will cherish! Lord, said I wasn’t going to cry today and here I go sweating at the eyes. Please stop what you’re doing at 9:30 today to tune in to watch their virtual graduation. I’ll be starting a watch party soon. 🎓 ❤️💙❤️💙

Racial tensions in the United States have been at an all-time high in recent years. It seems as if each day a new occurrence of racial and/or social injustice flood social media and television networks leaving communities of people angry, hopeless, marginalized, and with no other choice but to begrudgingly accept these instances as reality created by institutions of racism and privilege.

We all are guilty of being angry, expressing our outrage, and demanding justice.....in the moment. However, life goes on and due to a lack of intentional work to change these realities, we end up returning to the status quo until the next injustice hits the airways. I strongly believe this is due to a lack of leadership and the necessary resources at all levels needed to even begin to chip away at these issues.

I did not think my first post under this platform would be about racism, but I think it is befitting, necessary, and a topic that no one should ignore. I ran across this article this morning that I believe offers some very intentional approaches that ANYONE can take to begin the work of curving racial injustice. However, this work cannot remain at the individual level. It must permeate through our schools and organizations. We must begin to have tough conversations and put into place those practices that are aimed at disrupting the status quo while promoting equity, diversity, and justice.

These are not easy conversations but necessary conversations! If you are in need of someone to facilitate this work to ensure your school or organization is a safe place for everyone, please reach out to the Nutty Professor. I would be glad to lead you in this work. It cannot be ignored!
