WHAT'S MY 'WHY'?
I've been spending time this morning journaling about what my "WHY" is. I'd like to share it with you all. Let me know what you think, and also...,
What's YOUR 'WHY'?
WHAT’S MY “WHY”?
Why am I taking a job in sales? Why am I changing careers from the “safe and secure” 9-to-5 to a career in commission sales?
I want to learn how to sell so that there is no limit to my income.
I want to learn the skill of sales so that I can get out of debt, build wealth, and achieve financial freedom for myself and my family.
I love being in front of people, building relationships and solving problems.
I’m sick and tired of being told what to do, while being overworked and under-appreciated.
I want to take what I learn and teach my son, so that when he’s an adult he’ll have a skill that will take him as far as he wants to go.
MY INCOME GOALS (Written As If I’ve Already Achieved It)
I have earned $250.000.00 by March 20, 2025 (my 51st birthday).
DISCOVER MY ‘WHY’
Question 1: Why do I want to earn $250,000? Because earning this amount will solidify in my mind that I do have what it takes to double my income. It will also show that I no longer have to rely on a “good-paying, safe and secure J.O.B.” to earn a good living, and that I have the power to control my own earning potential. Instead of hopping from one “safe, secure job” to another, I can increase my skills as a salesman to build more relationships, add more value, and increase sales to the point where I won’t ever need to rely on a “safe, secure job” again.
Question 2: Why is this important to me? This is important to me because, quite frankly, I’m sick and tired of being afraid of failure. All my life I’ve “played it safe” because I wanted people to like me. How has that worked out for me? It’s gotten me nowhere. After being let go from my last “safe, secure job” for no good reason, I was reminded that there is no such thing as a “safe, secure job.” The only way that I’m going to take control of my own financial destiny (and set my family up for life), is for me to acknowledge the fear but take the calculated risk regardless of the fear, stop worrying about what other people think, and trust the process.
Question 3: Why do I care so much about this? Because I want to leave my only son, Luther, a blueprint for how he can create the life that he wants. I want my son to see by my example, that with hard work, discipline and a positive mental attitude, he can achieve whatever he wants in life, and doesn’t have to rely on a “J.O.B.” (which stands for Just Over Broke) to survive.
One of my favorite quotes is from Dave Ramsey:
“Do the things others won’t do, so that you can have the things others won’t have.”
What does it mean to do the things that others won’t do?
Spend at least an hour a day reading or studying every morning instead of sleeping in or playing the Xbox.
Study hard while everyone else is complaining about how “hard” it is to study.
Spend a couple of hours at the library - on a Saturday no less! - before you hang out at the mall with your friends.
Read books, take webinars and invest in courses on personal development, sales, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and psychology.
Exercise at least three times a week for 45 minutes, whether it’s running, lifting weights, Zumba, yoga, etc.
Only associate with positive people who are on the same path of personal development as you are, who want you to succeed as much as you do, and who will hold you accountable.
Then, eventually, you will have the things that others won’t have?
Increased knowledge and self-awareness.
Opportunities for career, business and personal advancement.
Meeting people who can help you achieve your goals.
Working with and learning from people who have achieved what you want and will show you how, cutting your own learning curve in half.
Financial freedom, which leads to the freedom to live your life on your terms.
Now, what's YOUR 'WHY'?
