How can people of faith help defend democracy in 2026?
Join us on January 6, 2026, from 7:00–8:00 pm for the 5th Annual Interfaith event, Faith in Democracy: Facing the Challenges of 2026.
Moderated by Chris Crawford of Interfaith America, the conversation features CFJ's Founding Director Jim Wallis, senior fellow at Georgetown University's Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life, and Sharon Brous, senior and founding rabbi of IKAR, a Jewish community based in Los Angeles.
Together, we’ll examine the urgent challenges facing U.S. democracy and how people of faith can work together to strengthen it.

No Amazon for Advent
For many businesses, it’s almost the most wonderful time of year — the Christmas shopping season.

Instead of enriching the world’s wealthiest, we choose to strengthen the people and places that make our communities whole.
Advent is a season for reflection, generosity, and hope.
Yet it has become a time defined by consumption and profit.
This year, we are choosing differently.

We are living through difficult and uncertain times. This series offers a chance to pause, reflect, and connect in community. People of all faiths—and no faith—are invited into a facilitated conversation on the moral questions of our time. Together, we will explore how our values and moral compasses can help us process current events, advocate for justice, and sustain both ourselves and one another. This is a space to share perspectives, ask questions, and strengthen community as we face challenges with resilience, courage, and integrity.

This is an IN-PERSON event open exclusively to students

The government shutdown is a symptom of a deeper crisis. Political violence is escalating, and threats against our democracy are growing. Over 100 faith leaders signed onto a statement calling on political leaders to reject violence, defend free speech, and stop the targeting of faith-based and nonprofit organizations.

Last week, the Center on Faith and Justice, together with the Office of Mission and Ministry, hosted our inaugural Interfaith Prayer and Policy Breakfast.
This gathering brought our community together for prayer, reflection, and dialogue. We hope it will grow into a lasting tradition that continues to strengthen our shared work.
We are especially grateful to our keynote Melissa Rogers, for her inspiring remarks and to all of our speakers who offered wisdom and prayer. Thank you to everyone who joined us in conversation and prayer.

We’re excited to share that The False White Gospel by our Faculty Director, Jim Wallis, is now available in paperback. In this powerful book, Jim calls us to confront the distortions of Christianity that have fueled division and instead embrace a faith rooted in truth, justice, and love.

The fight for justice requires more than activism alone. It also takes soulwork that grounds and sustains us for the long haul. Wes Granberg-Michaelson’s new book, The Soulwork of Justice explores how the inward journey of the spirit is essential to the outward work of justice.
Celebrate the book launch on September 24 at The Festival Center. RSVP here: https://festivalcenter.org/event/the-soulwork-of-justice-book-launch/
