Want to teach human rights to high schoolers in the DC area?

Passionate about social justice?

The Human Rights Education Service Corps (HRESC) partners facilitators with host teachers in DC public high schools to provide an interactive 8-10 week curriculum. Based on the Universal Declaration of Humn Rights, facilitators lead lessons once a week that help students develop higher level and critical thinking skills while learning about human rights issues on a local, national, and international level. The program can be adapted to fit most academic disciplines while helping to meet DCPS goals and standards. No prior experience with human rights education is necessary. Facilitators recieve training before the semester begins on the curiculm and teaching in DC public schools.

The time commitment is between 2-5 hours per week including planning, facilitating and attending periodic meetings. The program provides an invaluable experience for both the students at DC public schools as well as the volunteers who approach human rights education in an exciting, empowering way.
