Wishing a Happy Ramadan to all those in our community observing this month.

Ramadan marks the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and commemorates when the Prophet Muhammad received the initial revelations of the Qu'ran. Ramadan ends with the celebration of Eid-al fitr.

Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, and during Ramadan most Muslims will abstain from food during daylight hours. Before dawn most Muslims will eat a meal called suhur and the daily fasting is broken when the sun goes down with a meal called iftar. During Ramadan, Muslims are also encouraged to engage in prayer, acts of charity, and spend time with loved ones.

As part of Election Programming at WCL, the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Affinity Relations is inviting all members of the WCL community to our Zoom Room on Wednesday, November 4, from 10 AM to 1 PM. This will be an opportunity for community building after the election. We hope to support each other, reflect on the impact of this election, discuss what we have learned and how to move forward. Feel free to drop in at any time.

Following-up on OSA's Mindfulness Meditation Webinar tomorrow, we will host a Self-Care Workshop from 11 AM to Noon. In times of strong emotions and challenging political times, self-care becomes increasingly important. Mindfulness meditation allows us to ground ourselves and turn inward. Join us for three guided meditation exercises to help you center yourself, slow down, and gain clarity on your thoughts and feelings.

We hope to see you there!

As members of the WCL Community, we reject expressions of xenophobia, including those associated with COVID-19. We encourage everyone to refrain from using racist, Anti-Asian language and hashtags when discussing the coronavirus. These unwarranted responses to the situation in which we all find ourselves have no place at WCL, and are inconsistent with our core values.

We value and support all students, staff, faculty and alumni impacted by the spread of this virus and strive to build a community of caring based on empathy, reciprocal trust, and inclusive excellence. Help us to promote a productive response to this outbreak and the health and welfare of our community:

*Visit CDC.gov to educate yourself and those around us on the Coronavirus;

*Join us in rejecting racism, bigotry and xenophobia when you see it. Use the hashtags and to support members of our community;

*Report incidents of bias to the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Affinity Relations at [email protected].
