As a part of our cross-curricular murder mystery activity, Detective Doug Henry stopped by to speak with a few of Mrs. Roe’s and my students about analyzing crime scenes and writing reports. He explained how he uses trigonometry, reading, and writing for his job on a daily basis. We are so thankful that he took the time out of his busy schedule to come teach our kids. They were completely fascinated. Mrs. Roe and I learned a lot too!

Today one of my classes did a short story escape room, and another one did a Halloween Poetry Escape Room. The short story one was fun and fast paced. The poetry one was difficult, and although one group was probably minutes away from solving it, no one cracked it before the bell rang.

When we released in March, I never imagined that we wouldn’t be going back to school. It’s so weird not being there today, our last day, to tell everyone goodbye for the summer. I’m thankful for the time we did have in class, and I look forward to seeing most of you again next year.

Seniors, I was blessed to have you in class again this year, and I can’t wait to see where you go and the things you do with your lives. I will be thinking about you and praying for you as you venture out into the world.

Every year I pick a few students for my English awards. This year several students stood out to me, but since I only give 3 awards each year, I had to narrow it down.

As I have said at our academic banquet each year, I grew up watching the old, cheesy action movies, and my awards reflect those movies.

The Chuck Norris award is for the all-around best CA2 student. This student has the best attitude, is the most fun, and/or has good or the best grades.

The Rocky Balboa award is for my Pre-AP fighter. This student is one who fights through the tough assignments with grit, determination, and a never-back-down attitude.

The Popeye award goes the to AP student with the biggest forearms(best writer or most improved writer).

This year my award winners are Caden Uthe-Chuck Norris, Natalie Johnson-Rocky Balboa, and Allison Corwin-Popeye. Your awards will be at the school in June when pickups begin. Great job to everyone!!

I sent an e-mail out to parents and students today. Below is part of it for anyone who missed it.

If someone had told me on March 16th that we wouldn't be going back to school this semester, I don't think I would have believed them. I truly believed I would see each of you again this semester, and I am I sad that we didn't have any closure to our school year. I am praying that this is a once in a lifetime experience.

Grades for this semester will be taken from 3rd quarter. Please check those grades. If you are not satisfied with what you have, you are welcome to complete any of the work I sent home in the packet at the beginning of our break. You can also complete any of the suggestions that I have sent via e-mail. Just send me what you complete, and I will add those assignments as to help your grade.

Here are some suggestions for this week. If you do these for a grade, please answer each prompt in a few paragraphs.

1. What weaknesses — and what strengths — is this crisis exposing in our society? (possible topics listed below)

◦ What lessons can we learn from this crisis? How should we apply those lessons?

◦ What role should leaders, in government and elsewhere, play during a crisis like this one?

◦ What ethical issues does this pandemic raise — for each of us personally, for our immediate communities and for us all as global citizens? What does it mean to be a “good citizen” in the context of this outbreak?

◦ What historical parallels, like to the 1918 flu pandemic and to the plague, can we find, and what can — and can’t — we learn from them?

◦ What are the causes and effects of this pandemic? What future effects can you predict, whether they happen in days, weeks, months or years? Why?

◦ How can you best help yourself, your friends and family, or any other communities your are a part of that are affected by this pandemic?

2. Why is it important to have a balanced diet and to exercise 3-5 days a week? (You can approach this one however you want)

3. If you had a friend who had $100,000 to donate to any charity, what charity would you ask them to donate to and why? ----This can be any size charity from local to worldwide. Also, don't ask them to donate to you:-) This is a chance to share about something that you think is necessary and important.

With the purchase of storage shelves for the backpack program food, I finally cleared out the clutter and piles on this side of my room and set my new reading area up. 😊❤️. It was a hit.

My seminar did a great job decorating my door for Red Ribbon Week.
My 5th hour decided to have Buddy(from 4th hour’s horror story creations) help with their Macbeth essays. 😱

I love seeing my students learn new skills while working on community service projects ❤️.
Their art teacher has taught them how to crochet. They are making scarves for the elementary.
