Last week on Friday we went to Elsewhere Farm run by Clare Hintz. She showed us around her farm which is run by only her unless it's around harvest time in which her husband will help.

We also managed to pick and sell 14 pounds of basil to various local business!

This week we have been very busy at the Washburn high school high tunnel. We transplanted some of basil so they wouldn’t get crowded. We also took a field trip to Great Oaks Farm. We learned about proper pruning methods and the most efficient ways to do it. When we got back we pruned our tomatoes so they are not nearly as bushy. Most of our tomatoes have multiple flowers and are almost ready to start growing tomatoes. Basil is going to be harvested next week. - Hope

Our high tunnel is swamped. Our theory is that we are in a slight bowl, and extra water just sits and doesn't drain. This is because the soil under us is mostly gravel mixed with a lot of clay, so water doesn't drain through. We are currently brainstorming plausible ways to get rid of those puddles.
Today we finished planting the basil, and trellised the tomatoes again. We also weeded.
Next time we will be trellising and weeding again, as those are maintenance tasks that have to be done every time. - Yamila
