Ever wonder how to get students excited about careers in law and public service?

February is Legal Industry Month at RIEXL — and we’re spotlighting opportunities that give students real-world exposure to the courtroom, public safety, and more.

📍Tour a local courthouse
👮 Shadow local police departments
💼 Meet legal professionals at Troutman Pepper Locke
👯 Join peer-led initiatives like Bring-a-Buddy

These opportunities aren’t just career exposure — they’re confidence-builders, resume-boosters, and moments of clarity for students thinking about their futures.

Last Thursday, RIEXL joined Providence Business News for the 2026 Workforce Development Summit.

The RIEXL team was proud to support featured panelist Katharine Amaral, Director of Programs and Community Partnerships for Junior Achievement of Rhode Island.

Katharine was joined by Arrin Clemons (Workforce Manager, Polaris MEP), Rosemary Costigan (President, Community College of Rhode Island), Dr. John Olerio (Executive Director, Office of Strategic Initiatives for University of Rhode Island), Donna Re*****on (Senior Director of Experiential Education and Career Services, Johnson & Wales University), and Dr. Henry Young (Assistant Provost, New England Institute of Technology). It was great to see the Governor’s Workforce Board there too!

The panel discussed best practices for talent pipelines, partnerships between businesses and educational institutions, ways to reach K-12 students, and policy initiatives shaping the future of work in Rhode Island. Katharine let everybody know about all the experiential learning opportunities available at www.riexl.org!

What happens when career exploration isn’t theoretical, but live?

Students in a CTE solar energy program didn’t just talk about renewable energy.
They stood on-site and witnessed a real solar panel installation in action.

That’s the difference between learning about work and seeing it unfold in front of you.

Work-based learning gives students space to explore what kind of career could inspire them, challenge them, and help them contribute meaningfully to the world of work.

RIEXL exists to make that connection easier.
We bridge what’s happening in K–12 classrooms with real employers across Rhode Island who are willing to open their doors and share their industry.

If you’re an educator looking to bring learning to life or an employer ready to host the next generation, the platform is built for you.

Explore or post an opportunity at riexl.org.

So many students don’t know that careers in the arts are possible or that free tours and inclusive programming even exist. That’s where RIEXL comes in. 💡

Jordan Butterfield of Trinity Repertory Company shares how excited they are to connect with more educators through the RIEXL platform and what it’s like to see students light up when their passions align with behind-the-scenes careers.

Employers like Dr. Krit and the Eyediology team are opening doors, inviting students into professional spaces they may have never seen before, and helping make career pathways feel real and reachable.

When educators, community organizations, and employers collaborate, career exploration stops being abstract, and starts becoming something students can actually picture themselves in.

We’re grateful to partner with Eyediology and other Rhode Island employers who are investing their time, space, and expertise in the next generation.

What does it really mean to prepare students for the workforce?

For Dean Ventre from BAYADA Home Health Care - Rhode Island Skilled, it’s about showing up, sharing stories, and planting seeds for what’s possible. Dean visited Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center to speak directly with high schoolers about what a career in healthcare can look like and why it matters.

His advice? You don’t need everything figured out. Just stay curious, stay kind, and ask the questions.

👥 Huge thanks to Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center, the Junior Achievement of Rhode Island, and our partners at Bayada for helping make career-connected learning real for Rhode Island students.

📢 Employers, educators, and community orgs: Want to host a speaker, offer a shadow day, or open your doors?

Behind every student opportunity is a team of people who make it happen, and Rooftop Power is one of those teams.

The Rooftop Power crew welcomed students from Davies Career-Tech High School for a day of learning, questions, and hands-on exposure to careers in solar energy.

As a RIEXL partner, Rooftop Power is helping redefine what work-based learning looks like: real people, real skills, and real access to career paths that matter.

We’re proud to partner with a team that’s shaping the future of clean energy in Rhode Island, as well as shaping future careers. ☀️
