🔧 Steel Trailer Frame Repair — Done Right, Not Just Done Fast

A customer from Middletown found us on Google when the coupler tab tore clean off his Big Tex trailer. Here's the thing most people miss: the factory weld held fine — it was the thin box tube underneath that failed. Too light for the loads a work trailer really takes.

A quick bead over the crack would've just torn again in the same spot. So we did it properly: repaired the torn tube, then bolstered the tab with heavier 1/8" plate on three sides for a much bigger, stronger footprint. Came out about 3x stronger than factory — and finished in gloss black so it won't rust.

This is the everyday working-equipment repair we love — trailers, frames, ramps, farm and equipment steel. If it's cracked, torn, or bent, bring it to us before you scrap it. We come to you, too.

Mobile Aluminum Transom Repair – Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Another successful mobile welding job completed in Rehoboth Beach, DE! This aluminum boat transom had cracked on both sides from years of outboard motor weight and fatigue. One crack 5" long, the other 3-1/2". A simple weld repair wouldn't hold up long term, so we engineered a permanent structural fix.

Our process: dye penetrant non-destructive testing to map the full crack length, stop drilling to arrest crack propagation, and full inside/outside TIG welding of the cracks using 5356 aluminum filler wire the marine-grade alloy chosen specifically for its corrosion resistance and strength in saltwater environments. From there we custom fabricated stainless-bolted aluminum angle brackets with welded gusset plates, fitted and welded in place on both sides, reinforcing the transom far beyond the original factory strength. Brackets were tack-welded at the top for easy future access if ever needed.

Got a call about a smashed aluminum horse trailer fender that needed to move fast. The fender had taken a hit, caved in and torn away from the frame rail and step rail. The attachment weld had ripped clean. The owner needed his trailer back in service the same day.
He brought the trailer straight to PIE LLC Weld & Machine in Warwick, Maryland and waited while we got it sorted. We set up the mobile welding rig, assessed the damage, straightened the fender and re-welded it back to the frame and step rail with a proper aluminum weld not a tack job, a full structural repair built to hold.
Start to finish while the customer waited. That's how we operate.
Aluminum horse trailer repairs are a specialty here. Aluminum tears, fatigues and cracks differently than steel and it needs a welder who understands the material correct filler wire, correct technique, correct heat input. A bad aluminum weld on a trailer fails again. We do it right the first time.

PIE Weld & Machine recently completed another mobile stainless steel repair for one of our aviation industry clients here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The issue was with a turbo jet engine stand stainless steel oil drip pan. The existing overflow drain tube was undersized and could not evacuate spent oil fast enough during operation, causing oil to overflow and create a mess and spill hazard.
Our client contacted us because the engine was already mounted in the stand and needed an on-site repair completed quickly and correctly. We arrived on site by 7:00 AM with our mobile welding trailer fully equipped for stainless steel fabrication and repair work. By 8:30 AM we had:

• Drilled and prepared a new opening
• Fabricated a larger stainless drain tube from material we had in stock
• Fully TIG welded the new tube assembly into place
• Completed the repair with minimal downtime for the customer

This week’s project: a custom surf fishing rod rack installed on a Jeep, built with marine use in mind.

The rack originally came off another truck, but with some modification and TIG welding, I was able to adapt it for a clean, secure fit on this setup. The mounting points required steel TIG welding, while the rack itself is aluminum keeping it lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and ideal for harsh saltwater environments.

This kind of project ties directly into the marine fabrication work I focus on. I specialize in aluminum welding for boats and fishing applications, including custom rod holders, surf fishing racks, and other aluminum fishing equipment built to handle real conditions on the water.

Completed a structural aluminum dock repair this week on a waterfront property along the Bohemia River, feeding into the Chesapeake Bay. This project involved a three-section floating aluminum dock system where the center 12 ft section—hinged to the fixed shoreline structure—suffered critical joint cracking due to stress fatigue.
After inspection, I identified the dock was fabricated from a 5000 series aluminum alloy, so I selected ER5356 aluminum filler wire to ensure proper strength, corrosion resistance, and compatibility in a marine environment. Rather than simply rewelding the failed joint, I engineered a long-term solution by adding reinforced gusset plates to redistribute stress and prevent repeat failure—something often overlooked in dock repairs.
Although mobile welding service was an option, I recommended transporting the dock to my shop. This allowed for better positioning, improved weld quality, and access to specialized equipment—ultimately saving the client money while delivering a stronger, cleaner, and more durable repair.
The result: a fully restored aluminum dock, structurally reinforced and back in service with high-quality weld integrity built to withstand harsh marine conditions.

This week we completed a Yanmar SD50 sail drive repair for a client based on the West Coast with a vessel docked on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The issue involved a leaking lower spindle unit caused by worn seals and spindle damage.
We performed a precision marine machining repair, turning down the damaged spindle on our lathe and installing a custom press-fit sleeve to restore the sealing surface. We then replaced all failed components with OEM Yanmar seals to ensure long-term reliability.

This week, we completed a custom aluminum tubing boat seat frame fabrication for an important commercial marine client. Our customer needed a durable, functional aluminum seat frame that would allow them to add and upholster a seat for a work boat. From design to fabrication, we delivered a high-quality, precision-welded aluminum frame within 5 working days, ensuring the boat was ready for service on Chesapeake Bay by April 6th, just in time for the start of the season.

Yesterday we completed a challenging cast aluminum repair for a valued automotive client in Maryland. The timing chain case cover was completely cracked, with one-third of the casting broken. In our shop, we performed precision metal repair welding, thoroughly cleaning the part to remove oil, grime, and dirt, and bevel prepping the crack for a strong, high-quality weld.

Because the part had a machined sealing surface, we mounted it on a surface plate to ensure it was perfectly flat and locked the pieces together for a seamless repair. Using careful AC welding techniques, we drew out contaminants from the pores, cleaned the area with a stainless wire brush, and completed the weld. The result: the part was flat, strong, and held engine pressure perfectly, saving the client weeks of downtime waiting for a replacement.

🚁 LEAK WELDING REPAIR for the CH-47 Chinook rotary hub shipping container

We repaired a leaking storage container for a CH‑47 helicopter rotary‑hub. The container must stay airtight to prevent moisture‑induced corrosion during shipment, so it’s nitrogen‑purged when in service.
• Dye‑penetrant testing (DPT) revealed the crack locations.
• An air‑pressure test with soapy water pinpointed the exact leak point.
• We then applied a reinforced patch that fully covers the compromised area.
