Today, I set up an outdoor obstacle course designed to support children's learning through schemas while encouraging lots of movement and fun!

šŸ”µ Trajectory Schema – Throwing bean bags into hula hoops and exploring how objects move through space.

āš–ļø Positioning & Orientation Schema – Balancing on beams and experimenting with body position, balance, and spatial awareness.

šŸƒ Dynamic Schema – Running through the course and jumping through tires, enjoying movement, speed, and active exploration.

It's amazing to see how a simple obstacle course can support children's natural urges to move, repeat, explore, and learn through play!

I never imagined my career would be in early childhood education… until I had children of my own. šŸ’›

This throwback photo is from when I opened my very first daycare—and looking back, I had no idea just how much that moment would change my life. Can you guess what year this was?

Before becoming a parent, I never saw myself working with children in this way.

But once I had my own children, everything shifted.

I became deeply curious about how children learn, grow, communicate, and experience the world. I wanted to understand their development, support their potential, and create the very best foundation possible.

That curiosity turned into passion.
That passion became purpose.

What started as wanting to be the best parent I could be led me to opening my first daycare… and that became the beginning of a journey I never expected.

Today, that journey has grown into supporting children, empowering educators, and helping parents build strong foundations through play and connection.

Sometimes, the path you never planned becomes the one you were meant for all along. So grateful!

Ever wonder why children do the same behaviours over and over again?
Throwing. Spinning. Carrying. Lining things up. Wrapping objects. Building.

It’s not ā€œjust a phaseā€ā€¦ it’s a schema. šŸ’”

Schemas are repeated patterns of behaviour that help children explore how the world works. When we understand schemas, we stop seeing certain behaviours as frustrating—and start seeing them as powerful learning.

In this carousel, I’m breaking down 10 common schemas and what they can look like in play so you can better understand, support, and extend children’s learning.

Understanding schemas can completely change the way you see play.

Comment SCHEMA below and I’ll send you my full PDF Schema Play Guide filled with practical ideas and inspiration. šŸ’›

At a recent PD workshop, I asked educators:
ā€œWhat do you do when a child is being defiant?ā€

Here's a couple of answers I heard.

But what if ā€œdefianceā€ is actually communication?

Often, challenging behaviour is a child’s way of saying:
ā€œI’m overwhelmed.ā€
ā€œI need connection.ā€
ā€œI don’t feel understood.ā€
ā€œI need support.ā€

When we shift from reacting to behaviour… to getting curious about the why behind it… everything changes.

Behaviour is communication—and understanding that can transform our classrooms. Want to learn more? Comment below and I'll share the details for our next online Managing Behaviour workshop. šŸ’›

Today, we used clothespins and cotton balls for painting—and it completely changed the process.

A simple twist on a classic activity can spark curiosity, creativity, and fresh exploration.

Meaningful learning doesn’t need fancy supplies… just simple, thoughtful invitations.

Save this idea for your classroom, daycare, or home!

Who knew something as simple as tape could completely transform outdoor play? šŸš—šŸ› ļø

Today, we added tape to our outdoor engineering area with unit blocks and cars… and it was a total game changer.

Suddenly, simple materials became roads, bridges, parking spots, racetracks, and endless opportunities for creativity.

Save this idea for your outdoor classroom or backyard play setup!
