As I run for my third term on our School Committee, I reflect back on the previous eight years. While some things have changed, some have remained the same. Our challenges remain and each day our future still walks through our school doors. I still believe in public education and the vital role that it plays in our com

munity. My wife and I are products of RI public schools, as are both of our families and, more importantly, our three children are products of our Warwick Schools. Great schools and great communities go hand-in-hand. As parents and taxpayers, we have a vested interest in ensuring that we continually improve the education offered by our schools, while at the same time looking out for those who ‘pay the freight’ – the taxpayers. Over the past eight years, we have made some significant strides in improving our infrastructure and, with the passage of two bonds for building improvements, we're well on our way to providing better environments for teaching and learning for our elementary and middle school students. The high school discussion (like everything else) was derailed by COVID but now we are in the process of building two new, state-of-the-art high schools and this is crucial. We need to thoroughly remodel and modernize our high schools. It can be done and it has to be done for our students, educators, and community. Obviously, COVID was a dark cloud over all of us. I pushed to get us back to in-person learning, implementing procedures and protocols to make the return as safe as possible. That said, we must continue to have a laser-like focus on student achievement. Franky, we need to do better - much better. We've taken steps towards that with new, aligned curricula at the elementary and secondary level but more needs to be done. We need to teach our students the things on which they'll be measured, and more. Anything less is setting them up to fail. To that end, we need leaders who will work together to help improve our schools. We need leaders who are willing to work with, and talk with, each other regardless of what they may think of each other. We need an informed and involved public that takes a healthy interest in what’s happening in our schools and our city. Warwick should be among the top three or five best school districts in the state. We still have a lot of work to do. Because at the end of the day, someone’s school system has to be the best – why not ours? Thank you

Yesterday my colleagues and I attended Toll Gate's and Pilgrim's graduation ceremonies. The accomplishments of these students is nothing short of impressive.
My wish for all graduates is that they find 'the tassle was worth the hassle'.

Congratulations to Pilgrim High School freshman Anthony Angevine on an incredible achievement in being crowned the #1 State Freshman Hammer Throw Champion! 🏆

Anthony’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have already placed him among the very best freshman in the nation. This outstanding accomplishment is a tremendous source of pride for the entire Pilgrim community, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for this exceptional student-athlete.

Last night I attended Pilgrim's Awards Ceremony.
Dozens of students received the Seal of Biliteracy,
Commissioners Seal, and the Pathway Endorsement Seal.

Students heading to Brown University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and other great schools.

Eight students awarded $20,000 Picerne Family Foundation Scholarships.

Over $175,000 in scholarships awarded last night.

Well done, Patriots, well done!

Tonight I attended Norwood Elementary School's play The Lion King with my colleague Leah Hazelwood, Warwick School Committee and Frank Picozzi.
The students were great! The Arts are alive and well in our Warwick Public Schools !!
