The Aspiring Dreamz Workshop will help you discover your own unique talent. The workshop will focus on discovering your strengths and setting realistic goals for the future. These hands-on workshops will include making and creating your own dream collage that you can take home for your daily inspiration.

DANCERS AND PARENTS: A THOUGHT ABOUT GRATITUDE

ARE WE STILL TEACHING APPRECIATION?

After nearly 50 years in the dance world, I’ve been reflecting on something I’ve noticed more and more. It’s a reminder about the importance of gratitude and appreciation.

When I was growing up, being chosen for a solo, duet, trio, or special part was something we were excited about. We appreciated the opportunity! We didn’t question every song, every step, or every creative decision. We respected the experience and knowledge of our teachers, and we learned so much because of it.

Today, I sometimes see young dancers focus more on what they don’t like rather than on appreciating what they’ve been given.

They may not like the music, prefer a different style, or think something else would look better on them. Sometimes, they may even form an opinion before the choreography has had a chance to develop.

Here’s what I think we sometimes forget: Children are still learning. At 10, 11, or 12 years old, they are still developing the training, experience, and perspective needed to understand what will showcase them best. That’s one of the reasons they have teachers and choreographers to guide them.

Experience matters. Knowledge matters. There is tremendous value in allowing someone who has dedicated their life to dance to share their expertise and creative vision.

Parents, when your child comes home expressing disappointment, perhaps the first response doesn’t always need to be stepping in to change something. Sometimes, the better lesson is to encourage appreciation, patience, and an open mind.

Not every opportunity needs to be negotiated, questioned, or redesigned to match a child’s preferences.

Sometimes, young dancers need encouragement to accept an opportunity graciously, appreciate the thought and effort behind it, and discover what they can learn from the experience.

Gratitude, humility, and appreciation are just as important as talent.

Before deciding that an opportunity isn’t right for you, take a moment to appreciate that someone believed in you enough to offer it.

Looking for a little extra one-on-one training?

I’m excited to announce that starting this month, I’ll be offering private dance lessons at Studio One in Lincoln, RI!

Each session will be designed around the dancer’s individual needs. Whether your dancer needs help with a solo, turns, technique, choreography, performance, competition preparation, or simply wants some extra training, we’ll focus on what will help them grow.

I work with dancers from many different studios, so these lessons are simply an opportunity for additional training and personalized attention outside of their regular studio classes.

💙 A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR SENIOR GIRLS! 💙

I want to take a moment to recognize these amazing young ladies: Kendyl, Keagan, Ella, Mackenzie, Ally, and Makayla.

Thank you for helping make our Aspiring Dreamz Team Bonding Day at McKeon Dance & Gymnastics so special! This day was all about bringing our dancers together, building friendships, creating connections, setting goals, and reminding everyone that being part of a team means supporting and encouraging one another.

From running games and activities to encouraging the younger dancers, you were absolutely incredible. You stepped up, took charge, and, most importantly, were wonderful role models for our younger dancers.

Watching you interact with the kids, make them laugh, include everyone, and help create such a positive atmosphere made me so proud. You helped create an environment where everyone could have fun, feel included, and truly feel like they were part of something special. These are the moments that make a team more than just a group of dancers. 💙

I am truly so appreciative of the time, energy, and love you gave that day. You helped me more than you probably realize, and I hope you know how special it was to have you there beside me.

What a beautiful way to start this new season — together, supporting one another, building friendships, setting goals, and creating something really special.

Thank you, girls, for helping make this first team bonding day such a success. You helped set the tone for a season filled with teamwork, positivity, and memories we will cherish. ✨💙

❤️A Message for Young Choreographers & Teachers

One of the greatest gifts I ever received growing up was from my teacher, Nancy.
She didn’t just teach me steps — she opened the entire dance world to me.
She took me to New York, encouraged me to train in Canada, and brought me to every dance convention she could. That exposure shaped everything about who I became as a dancer, a teacher, and a choreographer.

And after 40+ years in this industry, I still make it a priority to keep learning.
There are so many opportunities now — online ballet classes, virtual workshops, and incredible training at your fingertips. There’s no excuse not to continue growing.

For years, Gerrianne and I took the train to New York every few weeks — leave in the morning, take five or six straight hours of classes, then take the train home that night. We did that for many, many years, and those trips made us who we are. That level of dedication matters. It shows up in your choreography, your eye, your technique, and your ability to help dancers grow safely and beautifully.

To the young choreographers coming up in this industry:
⭐ Get into class.
⭐ Take ballet consistently.
⭐ Go to conventions.
⭐ Keep training — even when you start teaching.
⭐ Stay open to corrections from those who have walked this path for decades.

Fresh ideas are wonderful.
But the foundation comes from training, humility, and a willingness to learn.

Your dancers deserve the very best version of you — the one who’s committed, curious, and constantly growing.

Let’s keep raising the bar together. ✨
