Asana - pose

Sukhasana, also known as easy sit pose is the go to meditation position. However, as we grow older this pose may not be as comfortable as when we were kids. Our joints no longer naturally have the flexion to get into this position as easily as they once did.

There are many ways to make sukhasana comfortable for you!

✨ Sit in a chair
Upright spine and feet flat on the floor (or on blocks!)
✨ Sit on a folded blanket or even on a block to help lift the spine
✨ Place blocks underneath the outer hips. This is helpful if your hips are tight and feel tension there as your knees fall towards the floor.

In the 8 Limbs of Yoga, as laid out by Putanjali in the Yoga Sutras, there are a set of moral and ethical codes that guide a Yogi's life. They are broken up into two; Yamas and Niyamas.

Yamas are the external principals that guide us and how we interact with the world and niyamas are the internal/moral principles we live by.

Santosha means contentment.

Think about the last time you were content. Content to sit in silence in the comfort of your own home. Content to sit and listen to another person's opinion instead of trying to preach to change their point of view.

There are MANY different ways to practice contentment.

A simple practice
✨ Stand or sit comfortably
✨ Bring hands to heart center
✨ Breath 3x
✨ Express gratitude for anything and everything in your life you can think of
✨ Breath 3x
✨ Open your eyes & smile

If you, like me, continue to wake up early on Saturday then take advantage of the morning and get on down to Town of Warsaw, VA !!

I host Yoga in the Park every Saturday (weather permitting) and it's such a fabulous way to begin the weekend 😜

Let's move, stretch, and get the blood pumping. Follow up class with a coffee from Eggspresso, a few books from the Friends of the Library bookstore, and maybe even some shopping at Angie's.
