We are a rural school of about 250 students in grades kindergarten through sixth. Students here work hard on their academics and in art, music, and phys. ed, but they are also involved in sports of all kinds, 4-H, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. 5th & 6th grade students also have an opportunity to be involved in band and honor choir. 6th graders also attend Camp Ohio for 3 days in the fall. Teachers

have interactive whiteboards called SmartBoards, access to long distance learning which connects us to the Columbus Zoo and other places, a computer lab, netbooks, iPads, computers in every classroom and our library, and a tv broadcasting system. We air our Monday Morning Mania Show, hosted by our own Miss Stout, who leads us in songs and announcements. We also focus heavily on reading and math skills. Our students are motivated to read many books through our Accelerated Reader program that is website-based. Students have access to thousands of computer quizzes for their reading books. They earn prizes through the points they earn by reading their books and taking the quizzes. Our kindergarten through second grade teachers build a solid foundation in both reading and math by working with the students in daily teams based on students' learning levels. Students receive intervention or enrichment as needed on an ongoing basis. When children are younger, they learn to read, but as they get older they read to learn!

RVHS graduates from the class of 2018-19 visited and walked the halls of Union yesterday. They brought a Dr. Seuss book for each kindergarten student and even raced 1st graders in the inflatable relay course. Best wishes to these students and all of our graduates!

Teachers even though you don’t get near the praise, the gifts, the appreciation, or the paycheck you deserve for being a teacher, you still get to do the BEST job in the world!

You get to TEACH. You get to INFLUENCE young lives in really big ways. You get to help your students BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES when no one else does.

And even though you might not get lavished with gifts, you still get to walk out of that school every day with your head held high. Because YOU, teacher friend, are an important part of the most noble, sacred profession there is.

And your dedication is most definitely appreciated!!

Thank you to all of our Book Fair volunteers! Our heartfelt appreciation to all of our parent/grandparent/family member volunteers that have helped all throughout the year! We could not do the activities we do for our students without you. We have enjoyed many activities and field trips due to your support with PTO and at the school.

There is a change in our school calendar for the end of the year. The last day for students will be May 21st. This is a change from May 23rd. It was important to get in our instructional days prior to state testing so make-up days were scheduled and have been made up. This change will allow for the staff professional days that were missed to be made up. If you have questions please contact the office.
