Cicada Challenge final count for the school year! Our goal was 1,000, we collected 6,427!! Coming close to our past record, 2021- 7,400, with this collection, we did something wild! Mr. Pike took to the dance floor and danced on cicada shells! Ending it with Mr. Banks coming out to help do some Scooba moves.

Happy ! Today, we’re excited to spotlight Anissa Justice, Blind/Low Vision Liaison, for and making a difference here at WCS!

Anissa was nominated by Emily Gough, who shared how hard Anissa works behind the scenes to prepare materials for students who are blind or have visual impairments, including finding creative ways to make math and science graphs accessible. She’s also always willing to step in and support the front office staff wherever she’s needed.

Last week, 2nd Grade ventured to Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College! During this trip, they learned about habitats, animal adaptations, and exploring nature! They enjoyed the great outdoors together on small hikes, finding things along the way.

Halloween is creeping closer, so some of our students created some creatures of their own!

Today, 1st graders from Washington STEM Academy learned about aquatic macroinvertebrates and the different adaptations that help them survive! Then, using a little Frankenstein-style science, they mixed and matched features from different macros to design a brand-new creature! Maybe the tail of a mayfly, the claws of a crayfish, or the body of a caddisfly, anything was possible!

The results were some wonderfully weird, creative, and scientifically inspired critters.
