This is a special short-season project of The American Children of SCORE (String, Choral, Orff, Recorder Ensemble) which has been on hiatus since the spring of 2014. This nationally esteemed organization, now in its 21st year, is a unique performing musical group for children in the third through sixth grades. SCORE is comprised of children from the northern Piedmont region of Virginia who have been selected by audition. All children are trained in weekly rehearsals to sing chorally. In addition they are trained to play recorder, Orff instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, drums, etc.), and/or traditional string instruments. Violins, violas, and cellos, along with voices, recorders and Orff instruments combine in arrangements that have been created specifically for this instrumentation and age group. The sounds are elemental, and the possibilities are endless.

CALLING ALL FORMER SCORE MEMBERS, especially if you are in grades 4 through 6 with an unchanged voice (sorry, older boys). We are going to team up with Paul Reisler and Kid Pan Alley for a recording session of some of the songs he has collected from his work with children from all over the country. Please let me know if you can join us on Saturday afternoon, November 7, probably starting around 12:30 PM for a few hours of recording chorus parts to some songs. It will be fun to be part of a widely-distributed recording! [email protected]

The New Millennium Youth String Orchestra

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

A NEW YOUTH ORCHESTRA IS FORMING IN WARRENTON!

If you are a strings player between the ages of 8 and 14 and have longed to play in an exciting new ensemble, the New Millennium Youth String Orchestra is the place for you! Under the auspices of the renowned SCORE music organization based in Warrenton, VA, the new orchestra program will be led by Alan and Cynthia Saucedo, two well-known musicians/teachers who happen to be brother and sister. Their concept is to make original string arrangements of pop and rock tunes, as well as some light classical pieces, and perform them in concerts at the Highland Center for the Arts and other venues.

The orchestra will rehearse every Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Highland School in Warrenton and is open to any young strings players from Fauquier and surrounding counties. The only requirement is that every member must be taking private lessons and/or be enrolled in a strings program at school. A quick parents orientation meeting will be held on Tuesday September 15 from 5-5:30pm, followed by a placement audition from 5:30-6:30pm at Highland School.

Tuition of $510, will be charged for the season, which runs from September through May. Needs based tuition assistance is available.

For more information and to reserve your spot in the placement audition, contact Dr. Alan Saucedo at [email protected] or Cynthia Saucedo at [email protected].
