This workshop is taught by four internationally respected experts in barefoot hoof care. It is based on the premise that optimal hoof care requires the naturalization of life factors coupled with a natural trim—a trim that mimics the wear a hoof gets under aboriginal conditions. Participants receive extensive hands-on trimming instruction plus information about the importance of the non-trimming elements of hoof health.
Classroom topics include:
Hoof care for out-of-the-wild ungulates: where it’s been, where it should go, and how to get there.
Characteristics of the optimal hoof form and their role in proper hoof function.
What researchers discovered about the impact of terrain (substrate) and movement on hoof form.
Lower leg and foot anatomy.
Why the non-trimming elements of hoof care are at least as important to hoof health as the trim.
The reciprocal relationship between hoof, mind, and body and its importance to understanding the causes and cures of hoof pathologies.
The detrimental effects of stress on hoof health and how to minimize them.
The importance of the microbiome to hoof health.
The epigenome: How it affects hoof health and the well-being of future generations.
How hoof pathologies hasten cellular senescence, accelerate aging, and increase the risk of all sorts of disorders.
