It looks like great fun was had by all on an evening that may have been damp but did not dampen the spirit of our students, families, or mascot. Do you have other photos of our Highland crew to share? Please add them in the comments below!

The Warrenton Christmas Parade is tonight - rain or shine!

Highland staff will be there lined up and ready for anyone who wishes to walk with us! Please dress for inclement weather. The parade begins at 6, so we ask that walkers join us on Main Street (near 6th and Calhoun St.) by 5:45 pm.

Remember, all Lower and Middle School students need a parent chaperone throughout the entirety of the parade. We can't wait to see you and your family there! GO HAWKS!

Our boys varsity basketball team has been on a bit of a roll recently. After dropping a few early-season games against nationally-ranked opponents, the team has won four straight including a convincing 79-36 win over St. Michael the Archangel at home.

To back that up, the team beat Episcopal School in the first round of the Sleepy Thompson Tournament Thursday afternoon at St. Stephens. They advance to play in the semi-finals against Clinton Grace Christian Friday night at 7:00 PM at St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School in Alexandria. The winner advances to Saturday's Championship Game at 5:00 PM.

In the meantime, check out the gallery of images from Tuesday's win over St. Michael's. Good luck in the tournament and GO HAWKS!

The team's next home game is Monday, December 11, 2023 at 4:00 PM against Tandem Friends. Check out the gallery of images from the game and feel free to download and share your favorites!

Congratulations to the girls varsity volleyball team for their win over Tandem Friends in the GPAC Tournament finals. The two teams shared the regular season conference title so the outcome was anything but certain.

After a win in the first set, the Hawks came from behind in the second set to take a 2-0 lead and then rolled to the victory with a convincing win in the third game. It was the team's first conference tournament title since 2012. GO HAWKS!

Thanks to everyone who supported the Highland Classic Golf Tournament at Fauquier Springs Country Club in October. We had a record number of golfers on the course for the event, which raised money to support our students and teachers.

After the round of 18 holes of captain's choice play, the golfers participated in a silent auction. There were also several raffles for unique sports experiences and gifts provided by our fantastic event sponsors. Check out the gallery of images from the day and please feel free to download and share your favorites!

Thanks again to Valley Health for visiting with our Middle School students. Here's a clip of the helicopter heading back to their home base near Wi******er.

Photos from Highland School Warrenton, VA's post 11/29/2023

Did you hear about the helicopter crew from Valley Health that visited the Middle School earlier this fall? On a beautiful morning, all students in grades 5 through 8 toured a highly specialized emergency response helicopter and heard from a crew of medical professionals.

The Valley Health team, led by pilot Todd Fisher, split the Middle School students into three groups. Then, the students heard about aeronautics, careers related to medicine, flying, and helicopter repair and maintenance.

Check out the full gallery of images to see the helicopter–and students–in action. Special thank to Todd Fisher and Middle School science teacher Kelly Mallon for arranging this amazing experience for our students!

For many of our students, field studies programs represent a series of firsts. It could be their first time on a field trip or their first overnight trip without parents. It could be their first time camping in the woods, canoeing the Shenandoah, or white water rafting.

The impact of surviving (and sometimes even thriving in) these first-time experiences can be immeasurable. Head of School Hank Berg has known this for more than 45 years and he's brought this to every Highland student's experience for the past two decades.

Help us honor Mr. Berg's legacy by making an impact of your own with your generous gift on at the link below:

For Highland students, field studies can be life-changing. Trying new things and getting outside of pre-conceived comfort zones is empowering and inspires connection and confidence in ways that few other activities can.

Throughout his 45-year career, Hank Berg has known this intrinsically. Since 2006, field studies trips have encouraged, inspired, and tested students across all divisions.

"My best memories are from my sophomore field studies trip with Ms. Krumich," said McKenzie Andrews '22. "My favorite parts were getting to know people in my group that I was not close with until that trip, getting to sleep in a tent with my good friend Abby Soltys, playing games with my group and camp leaders, and going hiking in the rain. It was a lot more fun than it sounds!"

Help us honor Mr. Berg and support field studies for the next generation of Highland students by making your gift at the link below:

For this year's , we've been sharing stories of our alumni's field studies memories as we prepare for Hank Berg's retirement at the end of the 2023/2024 academic year. Throughout the course of his 45-year career, outdoor education has been at the core of his educational philosophy and Highland students have reaped the benefits.

“I’ll never forget when I had my birthday out in the woods on sophomore Field Studies and my friends made me a cake,” said Philip Mulford '15. "I think it was just Nutella and tortillas… but maybe they smuggled in some sprinkles for it, too. Whatever we were eating, I just remember that moment was so funny and sweet.”

Recently, Mr. Ives. Middle School art class spent an afternoon making paper mache molds of their own hands. As you might imagine, the process was slow and messy but the students seemed to be having a blast!

This year's 'This I Believe' speeches, which took place in The Rice Theater last week, were amazing. Individually and collectively, the speakers, who are all part of ou Leadership Studies program, offered insights into themselves in genuine, honest, and personal ways.

The assembly, which took place just before Veteran's Day, also included a moving tribute from senior Jake Petronzio '24 to his father, Pete Petronzio. Pete, a retired Marine, has been a longtime contributor to Highland's leadership program. The class took the opportunity to publically thank him for his leadership and commitment.

Congratulations to all of this year's speakers and thanks again to Colonel Petronzio for the time and expertise you share with our students!

Highland Hawks Varsity Cross Country once again qualified for and competed in the State Championship this year following a tremendous season that included personal best times all year, Conference Championship qualifiers, All-Conference honors and, for some, a brand new sport and first-time competitions.

In the girls race, Carly continued her phenomenal season placing 21st out of 117 runners just shy of All-State by about 5 seconds. Carly moved up from 77th place at last year’s State Championship on the same course and improved her time by 3 minutes. To say this is absolutely amazing would be an understatement. Huge congratulations to our captain Carly on a truly tremendous season in her senior year.

We had more runners qualify for the State Championship at Woodberry Forest this year compared to last year and our boys team also moved up the rankings by three places, improving their team score by 53 points.

Congratulations to all on a stellar season, and special thanks to Coach Pais for all of the fantastic photos and updates throughout the fall!

They spoke on our curriculum at Highland and invited discussion about how other teachers and administrators could implement similar concepts at their own schools. Way to represent Highland, Mrs. K and Dr. Z!💙💛

Have you had a chance to see the new water feature in the outdoor classroom outside the Lower School? Lovingly constructed by Gary Hicklin, the setup includes a huge reservoir and pump that moves the water to an elaborate trough carrying it to the end and then cycles it back to the reservoir.

Students love pumping the water and then dropping ping pong balls and toy ducks into the water to see what happens. Watch for a video of the feature in action coming soon!

Highland Varsity Cross Country had a fantastic Conference Championship showing yesterday at Quantico!

Seniors Carly and Madisyn both raced personal best times and placed 6th and 7th respectively, earning all-conference honors. Bee, a sophomore, also raced a personal best time.

In the boys race, we also saw some of the fastest times of the season with three PRs! Highland's boys team finished 5th overall, just one point shy of 4th place with an average time of 21:23.68.

Congratulations again to all of our fantastic runners and the numerous PR achievements this fall. Next stop - States!
