Meet the MCTA Vice President, Katie Shaffer!
-Medina High School Social Studies Teacher
-20 years of service, 19 with MCS
-Medina Grad!
-Married 25 years to Eric
-4 kids: Avery 15, Harper 13, Sawyer 11, and Declan 8
"Our favorite child is Talulah Pearl, our 2 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She doesn't talk back to us, is always happy to see us, doesn't complain about her food, and doesn't ask us to buy her anything."
What do you love about teaching?
"High school kids are hilarious, I laugh every single day at work. Also, I love seeing a kid get excited about a topic or when they learn something new. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student conquer a problem or a fear they didn't think they were capable of."

On Thursday, MCTA President Wendy Shubrowsky and Building Reps Abigail Fabich and Stephani Itibrout had the honor of meeting National Education Association President Elect Princess Moss. Wendy was interviewed by NEA Today, so she will probably be famous now. Medina Educators are on the national radar for their advocacy!

Evolve Academy students in Mrs. Wendy Shubrowsky homeroom baked homemade zucchini chocolate chip muffins from scratch to finish out their first full week of classes. Students explored and compiled various recipes earlier this week. The students then had to compare individual recipes and agree on a shared recipe to bake collaboratively. It was definitely a sweet ending to a successful week!

We love our public libraries 📚 📖

Another amazing Summer Reading Game for Medina County District Library - all ages had the opportunity participate this year. While a majority of the funding for the literacy program is provided by our book sales and other fundraisers, we are truly grateful to this year's "spon-saurs:" Stuart & Patricia Neal, Meijer, Armstrong, Discount Drug Mart and Medina City Teachers Association. Thank you for your support!

Meet the MCTA President, Wendy Shubrowsky!
-Intervention Specialist at Evolve Academy, 27 years of service as an educator
-Married to Jay for over 26 years.
-Daughter Jenna, 2023 MHS alum who is student teaching at Tallmadge High School
-Son Julian, completing his senior year at the Medina County Career Center in the HVAC program.

Why do you teach?
I teach because I love learning. I have learned so much from my students! I also teach because I believe in public education and that every child is entitled to an education.

What is your favorite Medina memory?
One of my favorite Medina memories is my time teaching at Garfield Elementary School. Highlights include: the annual Halloween Parades, PTO Talent Shows, PTO Family Dance Night, all of the Garfield families and especially the dedicated staff. Greatness Begins at Garfield!
