Middle School ELA teacher at Hogg Middle School in Houston, TX. I was a Teach for America corps member!

πŸ“š One book every aspiring principal should read:
Navigating Behavior Change by Amanda Wilson and Danielle Lindquist. This is one of the most straight-forward and practical books on how to proactively teach expectations and how to work with challenging student behavior.

❀️ My favorite part of working with aspiring school leaders:
Watching educators develop their own leadership approach and watching them grown even MORE leaders. The ripple of impact is incredible!

πŸ“Œ Something students might be surprised to learn about me:
My career path has not been totally linear. I left public education for a couple of years and worked at Marzano Research as a School Improvement Specialist! I also worked for a textbook company in sales. I’m a trained color analyst and stylist and used to do it on the side when I was a school principal.

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni. It's an outstanding guide to building effective teams and tackling the challenges of trust, healthy conflict, and commitment. The lessons in this book provide a strong foundation for creating a school culture that fosters collaboration, growth, and sustained achievement.

❀️ My favorite part of working with aspiring school leaders:
Helping graduate students discover their unique leadership styles and find where they can make the greatest impact. It is incredibly rewarding to know that our graduates will leave the field of education better than they found it.

I collect fountain pens and appreciate the craftsmanship and history behind them.

Teaching physical education, health, science, and math at Oak Hill R-1, a small K–8 school district just outside of Salem, Missouri.

The Way of the Shepherd by Dr. Kevin Leman and William Pentak. It's a powerful reminder that great leadership is about serving others and leading wellβ€”regardless of your title or setting.

❀️ Favorite part of working with aspiring school leaders:
I enjoy staying connected to today's schools and supporting educators as they pursue their first leadership opportunities. As a facilitator for the Missouri Leadership Academy, I'm also fortunate to continue working with many of our graduates as they grow and thrive in leadership roles across the state.

🌟 Something students might be surprised to learn about me:
When I graduated from high school, I had no plans to attend college. I intended to stay in my hometown and work at a local sawmill. After spending a year there, I realized I wanted something different!
