Two new additions to the UCM Art & Design faculty are exhibiting their work in the SVPA Faculty Show. The Gallery of Art & Design is delighted to introduce Visiting Assistant Professor of Drawing Michael Shum and Art & Design’s Artist in Residence, Heidi Schultz, whose artwork is pictured in alternating slides. Shum is a painter and Schultz works in ceramics. Both artists blur the line between fantasy and reality to tell deeply human stories.

Lots of people make art about flowers. Two artists from the exhibition, Seasons, make art with flowers! Meagan Jacoby, new to the Mid-Missouri artists exhibition this year and owner of Meagan Jacoby, made artwork depicted in slide one by arranging pressed flowers into a beautiful collage. Jane Langford, current president of the Mid Missouri artists made the art depicted in slide 2. Although this image looks like watercolor, it was actually made by using a hammer to pound the pigment out of actual flowers onto paper. Did you know you could do that??
Slide three is a reminder of what we’re up against this weekend. Maybe you could be like Meagan and Jane and bring the outside inside for a fun, temperature controlled creativity. Come see these pieces and more today til 5pm and get inspired.
