You’ve made the plan. You’ve talked about the plan. You may have even put the plan somewhere “really safe” and promptly forgotten where.

Now it’s time to practice it.

A plan works best when everyone knows what to do before the unexpected happens.

Take a few minutes to walk through your emergency plan with your household:

• Who checks on whom?
• Where will you meet if you can’t stay home?
• How will you communicate if phones aren’t working normally?
• What happens if you need to leave quickly?
• Does everyone know where your emergency supplies are?

And don’t make it a one-and-done activity. Practice it, talk about what worked, fix what didn’t, and practice again.

You don’t need a drill instructor or a stopwatch. You just need a few minutes and a willingness to ask, “What if?”

Because when an emergency happens, you don’t want to be figuring out the plan, you want to know the plan.

Practice today. Be ready tomorrow.

🚨 Intern Spotlight: Meet Tyler Allen 🚨

If you’ve ever wondered who helps keep our community safe, prepped, and resilient behind the scenes, look no further! We’re thrilled to introduce our Crisis and Disaster Management Intern, Tyler

Tyler is a senior at University of Central Missouri studying Crisis and Disaster Management and he’s been jumping right into action. He is helping us work on our internal plans for the Missouri Safety Center and is gaining real-world experience in what it takes to handle the unexpected.

👉 A few fun facts about Tyler:

Favorite part of the internship so far: Having to put all my education to the test and learning new things.
Go-to emergency kit essential: Any kind of snacks that don’t need to be cooked.
Career goal: I am currently hoping for some sort of disaster response role deploying to communities in need.
