Winning Futures We empower Metro Detroit students with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to succeed.
(1)

Too many students graduate from high school without knowing what they'll do next or how they will support themselves, or they simply don't have the knowledge, skills, or support needed to succeed. We see these students and know that, with guidance and support, many will flourish. We empower students through our seven-year evidence-based Workforce Prep program that features volunteer career mentors, career exploration, academic and career goal setting, and critical life and job-readiness skills development. Our students attend schools in Detroit, Harper Woods, Pontiac, Sterling Heights, and Warren. Since 1994 we have impacted 50,000 students and awarded $2.1 million in scholarships.

Sarah, a scholarship recipient, is headed from Cass Technical High School to Wayne State University to study accounting.

What does Sarah view as her greatest strengths? Resilience and communication, qualities that became especially important after the death of her mother during her junior year. Despite grieving, she returned to school, rebuilt her routine, and kept a 3.9 GPA.

What did she learn from her mentor? Her volunteer Career Mentor, Regina “Gina” Porter, helped Sarah understand her strengths and weaknesses and encouraged her to speak up for herself in difficult situations.

Helping young people see what’s possible for their future is what drives Kiana Daniels.

With more than 14 years of experience in student development, Kiana brings a passion for career exploration, personal growth, and helping students build the confidence to take their next steps. As our Program Facilitator-in-Training, she puts that experience into action by helping young people develop practical skills and create pathways toward their goals.

Outside of her work with students, Kiana is a proud mom, Wolverine, and Eagle. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her graduate degree from Eastern Michigan University. When she’s not working, she enjoys traveling, decorating custom cakes, and bringing the energy as a Zumba instructor.

Meet Christina, a 2026 Winning Futures scholarship recipient from Harper Woods High School. As she enters college and our continuing education program, we’re proud to support Christina’s journey toward her goals.

Scholarships help open doors, create opportunities, and give students the support they need to keep moving forward. Christina’s story is a great example of what that support can make possible.
