The co-ops’ property insurance company, Gallagher, treated our Warren office with a fabulous lunch. The ever popular, El Charro’s in Fraser, MI, set up their delicious spread and the office enjoyed a wonderful Mexican lunch! Thank you, Gallagher, for the special treat!

The semi-annual leasing forum took place at Southgate Co-op on July 30, and at Ferndale Park Co-op on July 31. Members of the leasing committees attended. They discussed updated forms, electronic waitlist, follow-up calls to applicants, new member welcome luncheons, and offered up ideas for the upcoming leasing summit on November 6. A big thank you to the two kitchen committees for putting on a tasty lunch for the participants!

Members from the Palm Terrace Co-ops in Ontario, CA welcomed law enforcement during National Night Out which is an annual community-building campaign that strengthens the bond between law enforcement and the neighborhoods they serve. It’s all about fostering safer, more connected communities through partnership, trust, and engagement.

Held on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out brings together millions of neighbors across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases around the world. Communities celebrate with block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and a variety of family-friendly events that include safety demonstrations, youth activities, emergency personnel visits, and more.

On August 4, 2026, we were honored to welcome Congressman Dave Min to Mariposa Villa in Irvine, CA!

Congressman Min began his visit with a tour of our community, followed by a meet-and-greet and engaging Q & A session with more than 20 resident-members in the community room. He took time to speak one-on-one with several of them and hear directly about their experiences and concerns.

Our discussions included CSI’s mission and the services we provide, the growing need for additional affordable housing, the important role of service coordination in supporting members, and the recent interior renovations at Mariposa Villa. Congressman Min demonstrated a strong understanding of HUD, the challenges facing affordable senior housing, and the urgent need for more affordable housing opportunities.

A special thank you to our service coordinator Adriana and the members who generously donated and served cookies, croissants, bagels, coffee, and other refreshments. Your hospitality helped make the visit especially welcoming.

We appreciate Congressman Min taking the time to visit Mariposa Villa, connect with our members, and learn more about the work being done to support affordable senior housing in our community.

Last month, after their Council and General Meeting, Trenton Towers members enjoyed a pizza party after a new member (who wished to stay anonymous) bought lunch for the co-op as a ‘Thank you!’ for being such a welcoming community. What a treat!

Last weekend, Representative Shri Thanedar (MI-13) stopped by at our communities Rio Vista and Gratiot Woods in Detroit, as well as Southgate and Whispering Willows (Romulus - and our members were happy to receive him, make good conversation and voice how important affordable housing is to them!

Last month our Ferndale Park Co-op was visited by the Friends of Royal Oak Township, Inc. where our members engaged in healthy mind, body and community conversations. Some of the topics discussed were Behavioral & Mental health, Nutrition, and Healthy Living, guided by our partner Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic. One of our special guests was Candidate for State Representative - District 5 Crystal Bailey! Thank you for coming out to meet our members and finding out more about our co-op!

Our development manager James Downing is featured in an excellent article by Ben Phillips on different kinds of social housing across America:
