🌾 FFA CDE Season is Underway! 🌾

On October 8th, we took 14 FFA members down to Barnesville to compete in some of the first Career Development Events (CDEs) of the year. This year we had a team in every contest and they all gave it their best effort!

Congratulations to our teams:
🐑 General Livestock: Celia Winger, Malley Maurstad, Hannah Feist
🌲 Forestry: Luke Bergh, Maddie Page, and Kayhlee Rodriguez — 5th place team!
🌾 Soils: Hailey Feist (7th place individual!), McKenzie Woods, Jon Kintz, and Maddison Kintz — 5th place team!
🐔 Poultry Evaluation: Eli Johnson (5th place individual!), Matthew Johnson (6th place individual!), Reilly Clark (8th place individual!), and Brady Wimpfheimer — 2nd place team! 🥈

Poultry, Forestry, and Soils are state bound!
We’re so proud of the effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm our members showed to kick off the season. Great work, WAO FFA! 💛💙

On September 24th, the WAO 8th grade class attended Fall Rally at the Norman County Fairgrounds. This was a great opportunity for our young students and members to learn about the career pathways available through Agriculture and how FFA can make a positive difference in their lives. While there students experienced TRF Northlands animal simulators, checked out Titan Machinery careers, quizzed themselves on plants, prepared snack bags for local farmers, and so much more.

3 FFA members also tried their hand at the Best Informed Greenhand contest, which allows them to put their FFA knowledge to the test!

🎃 Last week our WAO FFA Chapter got to roll up our sleeves for not one, but TWO community service events! Big shoutout to our awesome Reporter, Lily, for connecting us with Klasen’s Greenhouse in Holt.

Kade and Ricki Klasen welcomed us in with a tour of their garden and greenhouses, and then put us to work picking pumpkins for their patch. Our members had a blast, made plenty of memories, and maybe even got a little pumpkin-strong along the way! 💪🎃

We’re so thankful for the Klasens and are excited to keep finding ways WAO FFA can support amazing local businesses like theirs.

Several of our FFA members also volunteered their time at the 2025 Water Festival where they helped 4th graders learn about water quality, flooding, watersheds, invasive species, and much more.

It's been a bit since we've updated everyone what we've been up to, but we can promise it's been very busy in the WAO FFA. Here's some snapshots of recent September Events.

On the 12th we held our first meeting of the year with hide and seek and delicious rootbeer floats served by our President and Sentinel!

The next morning, FFA Members woke up early to serve their community. They spent an hour and ten minutes cleaning the ditch north of Warren. Thank you to the Warren Jaycees for that opportunity!

WAO FFA members participated in several contests today at the University of Minnesota Crookston. The contests included Small Animals, Milk Quality and Products, Horse Evaluation, and Nursery/Landscape. Jon Kintz placed 9th as an individual in the very competitive Nursery/Landscape competition. Congratulations to Jon and everyone else who competed today!

WAO FFA Members competed in a variety of competitions at the University of Minnesota Crookston College today. These Contests included Crops, Fish and Wildlife, and Floriculture. Maddie Page placed 7th as an individual out of 42 competitors. Congratulations to everyone that competed today!

Yesterday the WAO FFA chapter went to it's first competition of the school year! We had several new and returning FFA members try a variety of contest including General Livestock Evaluation, Forestry, and Poultry Evaluation.

Shoutout to our students who participating in General Livestock and Forestry for their very first time!

And an extra shout out to our Poultry Evaluation team, consisting of Rielly Clark, Brady Wimpfheimer, Matthew Johnson and Eli Johnson, for advancing to the state competition this Spring with a fantastic 3rd place finish!
