Proctor Sara Sawtelle was featured in the latest edition of our President's Newsletter and shared about her background and journey to NPRC. We are to have you as a part of our team, Sara!

Hello, I’m Sara (Hawkinson) Sawtelle. I am an extremely curious researcher who loves to help people learn and understand complex issues. I earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Boston College and have taught middle school, high school, and at the college level as both professor and adjunct faculty. Science is my jam — as we used to say back in the day. I love being in a position where I can put my skills to work for others.

I started proctoring for NPRC in October 2021. Back then, I would leave my teaching job at the end of the school day to cover locations in need of a proctor, such as Franklin and Titusville. Currently, I am proctoring at the Warren NPRC location, which is just down the street from my home and a lovely walk.

I love being around the students and providing support. The conversations we have when they are between classes are so engaging, and I look forward to every interaction. While class is in session, I check rooms to make sure everything works properly. Once classes are over, I turn off the equipment and make sure the room is tidy. Proctoring for NPRC feels like being part of a vibrant learning community, which is right where I belong.

It is a joy to support the NPRC community as they deliver online degree programs that are affordable for academic and workforce training.

Ryann Upham, our Community Liaison for NPRC Community Development - Eastern Region penned an introduction in our latest President's Newsletter. We are to have you on our team, Ryann!

Hi! I'm Ryann Upham from Liberty, Pennsylvania. I graduated from North Penn - Liberty High School and went on to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where I earned a degree in hospitality management, along with a cognate in event and conference management, and a minor in business. I am one of the newest members of the NPRC team and serve as a Community Liaison for Cameron, Potter, and Tioga Counties. I've enjoyed working with various community partners and small businesses in my first few months at the College. I consider myself a true extrovert and am thrilled this role allows me to meet new people and work alongside them.

Prior to my time at NPRC, I spent some of my college years working in event management, assisting in athletic and institutional events at Liberty University. When I moved back to Pennsylvania, I worked in secondary education at my alma mater and quickly got into coaching youth sports. I also worked as the Summer Youth Program Coordinator for Tioga County Trehab, where I gained valuable experience in workforce and career development. That role allowed me to build meaningful relationships throughout Tioga County and gave me an even greater appreciation for this community that I'm proud to be from and reside in.

In my free time, I enjoy volunteering and coaching a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball, and Little League baseball. I'm a lover of the outdoors and just about any outdoor activity when it is above 50 degrees. I truly enjoy living in this region of central Pennsylvania and building connections within the community. I'm excited to continue building connections and serving individuals, families, and organizations across Tioga, Potter, and Cameron Counties.
