Today was full of wonder and discovery! This morning we said hello to our newest hatchlings—tiny baby caterpillars! The children observed them closely and shared their excitement as we talked about how caterpillars grow and change.
We read Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert, connecting our real-life caterpillar observations to literacy, science, and nature learning. Then we created beautiful coffee filter butterflies by coloring with markers and spraying them with water to watch the colors blend. This activity supported fine motor development, creativity, cause-and-effect exploration, and early science thinking.
The wind gave us an unexpected problem to solve, so the children worked together to find rocks to hold down their papers. We extended the moment into math by counting the rocks and comparing their sizes and weights using words like bigger, smaller, heavier, and lighter.
