April 2026 Standard Class Instructors:
River Brown grew up learning the skills from his father, Tom Brown Jr. With time and dedication, River became a full-time instructor at The Tracker School, joining his father in passing down the skills. Whether it’s shelter making, traps, or fire by friction, River teaches the skills with an excitement that resonates with students. He brings joy and intrigue to every skill he teaches.
Jorge Brana first started his journey with Tracker 32 years ago, taking his first class in 1994. In 2003, he joined the school as a full-time employee and instructor. He spent 13 years as Tom Brown Jr.’s right-hand man. Jorge has recently rejoined the Tracker Team to continue to bring his experience and passion to every part of the skills.
Kyle Moes started his journey at Tracker in 2009 at age 15, and shortly after, he began receiving formal mentorship from Tom. In 2016, Kyle formally joined the school as an instructor. Over the last 10 years, Kyle has taught at The Tracker School classes in New Jersey and Australia. He is excited to continue teaching the skills he grew up loving at the school where it all began.
Travis Worthington first learned about Tom Brown Jr. and Grandfather Stalking Wolf from one of Tom’s books which he was gifted as a teen. He quickly collected the rest. He started his journey at Tracker in 2000, which changed his life and he continued learning and mastering the skills. He’s been taking classes and volunteering at the school ever since, and in 2021 he became a guest instructor at the school. His calm nature and depth of knowledge shines through every skill he touches.
Join The Tracker School, and these four wonderful instructors at our April Standard.
Hope to see you there!

We are excited to announce that applications for interns and volunteers for the 2026 season at Tracker are now officially open.
These roles are truly the heart and lifeblood of Tracker. By joining one of these roles, you become an integral part of what makes Tracker so unique. Allowing students to fully immerse themselves in the skills, philosophy, and community of Tracker. You'll help create the foundation for students' experiences while growing your own skills and knowledge. This meaningful and memorable experience starts with the love and effort you put in.
We are looking for energetic and dedicated individuals excited to learn how Tracker runs and operates. Also, this allows individuals to learn more wherever they are on their journey, pushing that desire to learn.
We look forward to this year and seeing you in class. More information can be found in the descriptions below or by emailing River Brown at [email protected] or Kelly at [email protected]
INTERNING AT TRACKER
GENERAL SUMMARY:
During their term, interns will be encouraged to develop a well-rounded set of survival skills, as well as real-world skills in leadership, organization, people management and facilities logistics. Internship will provide many opportunities for tremendous personal growth on multiple levels.
Serving as an intern will provide unique insight into the logistics and responsibilities of running a camp. Interns will work in a small team in order to implement the camp’s food service program, including the preparation of meals, managing food deliveries and camp supplies, and assisting with the direction of volunteer and student work crews as needed. Interns will also facilitate student arrivals and departures, including shuttles to and from camp.
Interns will be selected with the intention of having a team that works well together and contribute to each other’s personal growth. Our priority is to ensure that interns have a powerful, rewarding experience in an environment balanced between challenge and rest.
Instructors will provide mentoring to the interns as the schedule permits throughout the summer, allowing interns to develop both the physical and spiritual skills of survival.
The intern program will begin with a training and orientation program so that interns will feel prepared and ready for the challenges and opportunities they’ll have during their weeks of camp. Training will include dedicated time learning about camp duties and procedures, including understanding the dynamics of working in the kitchen, practice driving camp vehicles and trailers, and development of leadership and teamwork skills. Interns will have the time and space to practice these skills among their peers before stepping into their role during the camp season. Practice of primitive skills will be highly encouraged during this time.
In addition to gaining experience and skills, interns earn class vouchers for their time. Interns are also eligible to take any class that they work, which they have not previously taken, for the discounted price of $250 in the year following their service.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
-Work cooperatively as a part of a team to prepare and serve tasty meals and snacks on time and in sufficient quantity, while minimizing waste.
-Perform all duties on-time and as directed, with or without immediate supervision.
-Follow a pre-set menu plan, with opportunities for creativity.
-Review and plan for special dietary needs and allergies of participants.

-Must be able to maintain personal health and hygiene while living in a camp setting. (Interns are part of the ‘face’ of the school, we ask within reason that best efforts are made to ensure students have a good impression and experience.)
-Must be able to lift/unload/move food and supplies (Within reason- If you have specific limitations, please reach out to our Intern Coordinator. We highly value experience and other non-physical assets. Although the position is in its nature physically demanding, we recognize that each team member’s contribution will be unique.)
-Must be willing to drive camp vehicles, which will often involve towing a trailer and transporting students. Previous experience with trailers is not required, training will be provided. (Contact our Intern Coordinator if this requirement will be a problem. We understand some folks are unable to do so for various reasons, including travel from abroad.)
-Must be willing to pitch in with other general camp duties when needed, such as maintenance of camp structures, preparation of class materials, and cleaning areas other than the kitchen.
-Current CPR/First Aid is not required, but is a wonderful asset.
VOLUNTEERING AT TRACKER
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Volunteering is a great opportunity to be involved in the running of classes and the behind-the-scenes operations of the school. Working as a team, volunteers prepare class materials in advance of lectures, assist with supervision of student workshop time, lead student work crews, and support the staff and intern teams as needed.
It is a tremendous chance to grow and develop teamwork and communication skills while supporting the school. Serving as a volunteer is also a great way to review classes you have completed and deepen your understanding of the material. Volunteers receive guidance and mentoring from staff and instructors during their service, giving them a chance to grow and fine-tune their skills.
You may volunteer for any class you have successfully completed and there is no limit to the number of classes for which you may volunteer. Applications are accepted on a rolling, first-come/first-served basis. There is no deadline to apply, however some classes are very popular and slots may fill quickly. If there is a class you have your heart set on volunteering for, we encourage you to put your application in as soon as possible.
Volunteers are an integral part of the success of any class, therefore in the best interest of the students and for the health and well-being of the entire staff, we carefully select volunteers we believe will be most capable of forming a helpful, cooperative, responsible team.

-Show up on-time and ready to work.
-Prepare class materials as directed by the Volunteer Coordinator.

-Must be able to work cooperatively, responsibly, and reliably as a part of a team.
-Must be able to work under pressure within time constraints.
-Must be able to commit for the full week of class.
-Must be able to maintain personal health and hygiene while living in a primitive camp setting. (Volunteers are part of the ‘face’ of the school, we ask within reason that best efforts are made to ensure students have a good impression and experience.)

We are excited to welcome Jorge Brana back to the Tracker School!
Jorge Brana first started his journey with Tracker 32 years ago, taking his first class in 1994. In 2003, he felt called to become an intern and quit his well-paying job on the west coast to follow this calling. Subsequently Tom hired him on as a full-time employee and instructor. For 13 years he became Tom’s right-hand person with instructing, logistics, and running excellent caretaker, volunteer, and intern programs. He excelled at anticipating what both Tom and the students needed. It was a sad time when he had to leave the Tracker School due to health concerns.
Jorge brings a huge amount of dedication and experience to whatever he is doing. Anyone who has seen his cooking lectures at the Standard class can attest to the amount of fun he brings to cooking primitively as well as other lectures. He is very proficient at teaching the skills, catching and conveying the “heart” of the Tracker School. Anyone who’s been at one of the many classes with Jorge as an instructor knows that he brings such passion and heart to all the skills.
Welcome back, Jorge! We are delighted to have you back on the Tracker Team full-time starting with the April Standard class!

Upcoming Online and In Person Classes with Malcolm Ringwalt! We are excited to announce an online reviewing and deepening of the Philosophy 1 & 2 meditations.
We’ve heard from many of you expressing a desire for in-person Philosophy 3 & 4 classes and we are happy to announce we will be teaching them this fall.
We are also happy to announce a Keepers Gathering this coming fall!
Details of the classes are below!
Philosophy 1 Online Meditation Class
May 11-15, 2026 7:00 to 9:00 EST
Cost: $200
Prerequisite: Philosophy 1
The Tracker School is excited to announce an online class that reviews and deepens the experiences every meditation that Tom taught in Philosophy 1, from the Long Form Meditation to the final Void Meditation (modified a bit). The class will be guided by Malcolm Ringwalt, who helped Tom run the Philosophy classes from the beginning in 1985, and even ran them several times when Tom was not available. His knowledge and experience of the class and the meditations is extensive. So, if you have taken Philosophy 1 and wish a refresher course for the meditations, please joinj us for this class.
Both Tom and Malcolm have repeatedly said that if there is any problem along the spiritual path, it can most likely be traced back to an incomplete understanding of Philosophy 1 or an insufficient practice in those principles and meditations.
This is not a review class filled with talk. It is a meditation class focused on experiences. However, there will be time for questions and a review of each of the meditations before we experience them. The class will include each of the exercises you did in your Philosophy 1 class like Exploring the Unknown Trail, Gathering, Storing, and Sending Energy, Asking Spirit a Question, and Healing—all of them. There will be enough talk to introduce each meditation and put it in context, set up logistics, and some talk to debrief after the meditation, but be prepared to spend most of each session of the class in guided meditation (along with some unguided, practice meditations afterwords). So pick a comfortable chair for the sessions!
The class will span 5 sessions from 7PM to 9PM each evening, with some variability depending on the meditations being explored.
Please join us for a refresher of the meditations, to have some Q&A time with Malcolm, and to strengthen the foundations of your spiritual path.

Philosophy 2 Online Meditation Class
June 1-5, 2026 7:00 to 9:00 pm EST
Cost: $200
Prerequisite: Philosophy 2
The Tracker School is excited to announce an online class that reviews and experiences every meditation Tom taught in Philosophy 2. Tom designed this class to complete the spiritual map that he began in Philosophy 1. He always said that the class would shave 10 years off your “dirt-time” and, while this online class is not a review class, it will refamiliarize you with the meditations of the class and thereby remind you of the map and the spiritual structure of life that we work with every day. This will be a dynamic and fast-paced class, though there will be time for questions about the meditations and a debrief of experiences. The class will be guided by Malcolm Ringwalt, a long-time Philosophy class instructor with Tom. Malcolm is intimately familiar with the class as he has taught it with Tom from the beginning of Philosophy classes, and has taught it alone when Tom was not available. He is passionate about the material from both Philosophy 1 and 2 and would love to share that passion with you.
This class is not a review of Philosophy 2, however, we will explore the meditations in Philosophy 2 from an initial Long Form Meditation (review), through the Veil Meditations, to the exercises of the class like Tree Preaching (Tom’s favorite), Energy Exchanges, Remote Viewing, Underground Meditation, Past and Future meditations, Effigy Stone (modified for this class), Healing meditations, and closing with the Void Meditation; all of the meditations. And, since the physical class was focused on Group experiences, we will make some modifications to include those meditations as well. A lot to cover in such a short time! Again, this will not be a review class so perhaps go over your notes from the class before you join us.
The class will span 5 sessions from 7PM to 9PM each evening, with some variability depending on the meditations being explored.
Please join us for a refresher of the meditations, to have some Q&A time with Malcolm, and to strengthen the foundations of your spiritual path.

Philosophy 3
August 23-29, 2026
Location: Joseph Citta Scout Reservation, Barnegat NJ
Prerequisite: Philosophy 2
Cost: $1000
Philosophy 3 is a very transformational class. There is a transition – from having doors opened in Philosophy 1 & 2 to actually walking through the doorways in Philosophy 3. This allows a metamorphosis to take place – the way you look at the spiritual world will have a dramatic change. The pencil hits the paper, so to speak, and our work on this path becomes more effective and fluid, with a greater ease of applying it in everyday life.
We will also go into depth with places of power – sacred areas of the landscape. Each place we will use has something to teach. Something very moving, life-changing, and inspiring if you’re willing to listen. If you know how to listen, as Grandfather would say. This class teaches you how to listen to these places of power, to learn from them, and to understand them. And to carry their life-changing wisdom into your daily life.
Malcolm Ringwalt will be instructing, assisted by Elizabeth Moes

Philosophy 4
August 30-Sept 5, 2026
Location: Joseph Citta Scout Reservation, Barnegat NJ
Prerequisite: Philosophy 3
Cost: $1000
Grandfather and Tom stressed that communication with and consciousness of the spiritual worlds should become dynamic. There should be no isolation between our physical lives and the spiritual dimensions, no matter what we are doing. In Philosophy 4, there is a further integration of philosophy and spirituality into your everyday life. There will be advanced concepts, techniques, and teachings designed to bring you further along your path by bringing a greater balance with the physical and spiritual selves. As we approach this balance, we become more effective in everything we do. We move towards living in Grandfather’s world where there is no isolation of self, only that which we call ‘oneness.’ It is in this fusion of the physical and spiritual realities that we move towards the final oneness of self where we are in touch with all aspects of our being as well as the unseen and eternal.
Malcolm Ringwalt will be instructing, assisted by Elizabeth Moes
