Yes, yes, and yes. Teaching phonics is scientifically proven to be effective. It must be taught if we want our kids to be able to decode and encode complex, multisyllabic words!

Scientific research has shown how children learn to read and how they should be taught. But many educators don't know the science and, in some cases, actively resist it. As a result, millions of kids are being set up to fail.

Hi Folks! I’ve been slacking with my posting while I ended the school year, traveled with a colleague for school, and returned home just. A few days ago! But don’t you worry, I’m still here and working hard! Below you’ll see the work I’m doing in paragraph writing with a rising 9th grader. Writing is hard. Organizing thought into coherent sentences, on paper or with text, actually is an unnatural process for the human brain, so don’t be afraid to ask for writing support! It’s likely that current and past teachers have also struggled.

The most important piece of this whole article is what I've been talking about and citing for so long! Interventions that have been deemed "dyslexia" interventions are actually appropriate for all struggling readers! Programs such as the Wilson Reading System are not designed to work only with learners who have dyslexia, but rather, with all learners, as current research demonstrates its efficacy across the board.

Many of the current US Federal and State dyslexia laws should be scrapped as they ignore scientific evidence and privilege some poor readers at the expense of huge numbers of others, according to Durham University’s Professor Julian Elliott.

Also, with a simple google search of “MA DESE parents’ rights,” you will find access to a pdf and Word version of a document called “Parent’s Notice of Procedural Safeguards,” which explains everything that you are entitled to as a parent of a student with special needs.

The International Dyslexia Association is a great resource for families of a loved one with dyslexia. It is so important to note and to follow the most current research in regard to dyslexia and dyslexia instruction.
