We asked Mrs. Pisiccho what is the most rewarding or favorite part of your day-to-day job?

"Having a student ask me to sit with them in the cafeteria so they can talk to me.
Laughs and interactions with my staff. My team makes me fortunate to lead them every day!"

We also asked...at the end of your career, what do you hope your students will say about your leadership?

"She may have been tough at times, but she was fair. She cared and believed in me. Every child makes mistakes, but how we react and overcome the obstacles is the most important lesson."

To mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, students and staff at Mandalay Elementary School in the Wantagh School District came together to show their support for children and families affected by pediatric cancer. On Sept. 24, they wore gold, the official color of childhood cancer awareness.

Dressed in shades of gold and yellow, the school community demonstrated solidarity and helped raise awareness about the challenges faced by young cancer patients. It served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of compassion, hope and support for those battling the disease. The sea of gold throughout the hallways and in classrooms symbolized a collective commitment to standing with children fighting cancer and honoring their strength and resilience. Mandalay Elementary School has a new theme this year which encourages students to R.I.S.E. Up with a new initiative designed to help students respect, include, support, and empower themselves and one another.

The assembly kicked off the school year with students and staff filling the gymnasium in colorful matching tee shirts designed by Mandalay parent Mrs. Caccamo, and voted on by the student body. Each staff committee member made a brief presentation announcing each pillar and what it stands for.

During the assembly student committee members Angela, Isabella, Luca, Noah, and Adriano each shared examples with the audience how they can each R.I.S.E. Up when met with challenging situations.
