1. Exploring Oyster Ecology is for ages 5 and up, starting at 4 PM. Participants will get an up–close look at live oysters, investigate the organisms they interact with, and play games, too! Pre-registration by 10/21 is required, and the cost to attend is $10/ person. ⤵️⁠

Exploring Oyster Ecology returns after school on October 22!

This program is an educational opportunity for families with children ages 5 and older. Instructors will lead a fun, interactive lesson on oysters and their vital role in our estuaries, and participants will get an up–close look at live oysters, explore the organisms they interact with, and play games!

October in North Carolina means NC Oyster Month and the return of Science on the Sound at CSI!

Join us to celebrate both on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 PM for the season's first presentation. Research Technician Lindsay Wentzel and Research Assistant Trip Taylor will present “Powering the Oyster Farm: Using Marine Energy to Monitor Coastal Waters.” Their presentation will explore how marine energy and environmental monitoring technologies are being used to better understand conditions at coastal oyster farms, including Herring Shoal Shellfish Company.

National Estuaries Week seems like a great time to share that Drs. Quibin Quin, Mike O'Driscoll, and Sean Charles recently received funding from NC Sea Grant to study storm and drought impacts on water quality in the Albemarle-Pamlico Estuarine System.
