Our 6th grade science students had an exciting opportunity to visit the Merrillville Community Planetarium to learn more about solar and lunar eclipses!

As we learn about these amazing space phenomena in the classroom, visiting the planetarium helped bring the concepts to life! Students were able to make connections between what they are learning in science and how these events happen in the real world.

We love giving our students opportunities to take their learning beyond the classroom and explore science in new and exciting ways!

Our PLTW Automation & Robotics students had the opportunity to welcome Lucas Sonaty as a guest speaker! Lucas is currently a sophomore at Purdue University Northwest, studying Mechatronics Engineering, and an intern at Apex Filling Systems.

Lucas shared what it’s really like being a college student, taking challenging engineering classes, and gaining real-world experience through an internship. He gave our students a glimpse into the world of engineering by sharing examples of projects and experiences he has been involved in throughout college. He even brought in a book he received on his very first day of college, showing our students just how much learning, growth, and hard work go into pursuing a career in engineering!

Lucas also talked about his experience coaching our V5 Robotics teams, bringing his passion for robotics full circle as he continues to learn and share his knowledge with the next generation of engineers.

One of the best parts of opportunities like this is allowing our students to hear directly from someone who is walking the path they may one day take. From college coursework and engineering projects to internships and coaching robotics, Lucas showed our students that what they are learning in the classroom can open doors to exciting opportunities in the future.

Thank you, Lucas, for taking the time to share your experiences with our students! We are proud to see you pursuing your goals, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and giving back to our robotics program. You are a great example of where curiosity, hard work, and a passion for STEM can lead!
