I bought seventeen acres with my former wife in 2017 to be the future sight of our small-scale organic vegetable farm. We dreamed of an abundance of local veggies, beautiful cut-flowers, a robust flock of "composting chickens" to provide eggs and manure, a small dairy goat herd for soap making, the largest area shiitake mushroom log yard, a handful of beehives, and an on-farm commercial kitchen. Our retirement $ fund was going to be a bed & breakfast nestled into these woods you see here.
The birth of our son in 2019 shattered our dreams like a level 7 earthquake. How? Why?
Relationship RUPTURE!
Marriage Life, Farm Life, Community Life all drained away in a span of less than one year. How can such a thing happen?
The short answer is that once trust and security are eroded in a marriage due to past trauma, skills unlearned, inner childhood wounds, high conflict, and a shift of differing values and perspectives it is only inevitable before the couple chooses to either divorce, live parallel lives, or begin the slow healing / reconciliation journey. The first two options are often the most chosen, but the third option is viable if two people are committed and skilled enough to work through their pain.
I don't own these woods any more. The property was split up in the divorce. I do own a two acre piece attached to the farmhouse and field where I now raise my 4 year old son and farm. The struggle has been real. My old dream is gone.
I learned a beautiful lesson: ALL THAT CAN BE TORN DOWN, CAN BE REBUILT.
I am two years into my rebuild, currently watching my son play on the windowsill by my side with his toy semi and his little farmer man named Santa Claus. I am reminded that there is always light in the darkness. That light comes from you, from within.
