Community Announcement

Dear Lewis Cass Families, Staff, Students, and Community Members:

I am honored and humbled to have been selected by the Lewis Cass School Board of Trustees to serve as the next Superintendent of Lewis Cass Schools.

Throughout the interview process, I had the opportunity to learn more about Lewis Cass and meet individuals who care deeply about this community and its schools. It quickly became evident that Lewis Cass remains a special place built on strong community pride and a shared commitment to helping students succeed.

As I begin this new role, my first priority is simple: to listen and learn. While Lewis Cass has always held a special place in my heart as a graduate of Lewis Cass High School, I know there is still much for me to learn. I look forward to meeting students, staff, families, community members, and partners throughout the district to gain a deeper understanding of what makes Lewis Cass unique and what opportunities lie ahead. I firmly believe the best decisions are made when people are heard and when we work together toward a common purpose.

Lewis Cass has a proud tradition of supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. From academics and career pathways to athletics, co-curricular activities, and extracurricular opportunities, I am excited to celebrate the many ways our students learn, grow, and prepare for their futures. Most importantly, I look forward to building upon the strong foundation already in place while ensuring that every decision remains focused on what is best for students.

A little about me: I am entering my twenty-second year in education and have served as an English teacher, assistant coach, assistant principal, principal, and now district administrator. Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about helping students succeed and supporting the educators and staff members who make that success possible. My leadership philosophy is centered on relationships, service, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

I am grateful for the warm welcome I have already received, and I am excited to return home to serve the community that played an important role in shaping my own life. I look forward to supporting and celebrating the outstanding work taking place across the district while building strong relationships with our students, staff, families, and community members.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve alongside you. I am eager to begin this journey and look forward to meeting many of you in the weeks and months ahead.

Together, preparing students for living today and life tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Tim Shoaff
Superintendent

Are you passionate about Lewis Cass? If so, now is the time to consider running for one of two eligible school board seats. The requirements around the overall district have changed, so below is an explanation of who is eligible to run.

First, a school board member has two main roles:

Represent the concerns on constituents (parents, citizens)
Establish policy and goals.

One thing a school board does not do is manage the day-to-day activities of Lewis Cass Schools; that falls on the superintendent. The superintendent does report to the school board.

The Lewis Cass School district has five townships.
The northernmost townships are Washington, Tipton, Miami
The two southernmost townships are Deer Creek and Jackson

In the past, each township (5 townships) had one representative, and the candidate had to reside in that township to be eligible. However, it has been challenging to get willing candidates in each district during each election cycle, so we requested a change desiring better election participation.

The opportunity is now open to submit the paperwork to be on the ballot for this November’s election. The two eligible seats are for Deer Creek and Jackson Townships. However, here is where the change has been implemented:

As long as one candidate is from either Jackson or Deer Creek township (the two eligible positions up for election), the other candidate(s) can come from any of the five townships. Below are a few scenarios to better explain this change. The assumptions below assume they met the requirements for school board candidacy:

Scenario 1:

John Doe lives in Galveston (Jackson township)

Jane Buck lives in Walton (Tipton township)

Under this scenario, both candidates would win and be on the school board for four years. This is because one of the candidates is from one of two open townships, and the second is from any township within the Lewis Cass.
