We employ a multiude of techniques to find out more about how perception develops in various populations of children. We are currently looking for individuals ages 5 years to adulthood to participate in our studies. If you are interested in helping science, feel free to contact us at the lab by email or by phone.

Neat paper on perceptual development in children with ASD. When kids with ASD were matched with typical kids of the same verbal intelligence rather the same age, a lot of the differences in their neural processing faded away, except for one difference in early visual processing, which may then lead to later deficits in higher cognitive functions. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022096511000336

Interesting paper from our lab on holistic face processing. We used misaligned faces to explore effects on processing, and found that misaligned faces disrupted neural processes in the same way that a upside-down face would. Among other things this details more about how we view faces: enjoy!

Holistic processing of faces is characterized by encoding of the face as a single stimulus. This study employed a composite face task to examine whether holistic processing varies when attention is restricted to the top as compared to the bottom half of the face, and whether evidence of holistic pro
